FWIW, somebody on the ASOIAF fan forum suggested him. The casting people actually been pretty receptive to suggestions.

7. For series. (spoilers)

Plus he's ridiculously hot, so he'd still look compelling with Sandor Clegane's burn scars on half of his face. It'd be harder to cast Gregor, but since he gets almost no face time he just needs to be somebody even more gigantic who can take choreography well enough to do the fight scene with Oberyn Martell, he doesn't really have to be able to act all that well because he has comparatively few lines.

8. Actually there is an actor (Conan Stevens from Australia)

who wants to be Gregor. He is gigantic and muscular (at slightly more than 7 ft. not as tall as the fictional Gregor but then again who is), he has also trained with a broadsword, and he has wrestling experience.

In 2007 he expressed interest in the job.
