So this is how they "honor" Michael Jackson?

They unveil his children and thrust them into the public eye at their most vulnerable moment.

Michael is rolling over in his coffin no doubt.

6. My OP was not about how I felt or "prefer"

How that conclusion was drawn is strange to me.
I was posting from how I thought Michael might have viewed all this.

His attempts to "shield" his kids from the media, by covering their faces, is well known.
It just seems to me that if the family cared so much about Michael, knowing how strong he felt about keeping them anonymous, they would not have unveiled them at his passing.

I don't give a crap about the whole spectacle to tell you the truth.
Personally, I think he was a tortured soul for whatever reasons.

4. Many people, including me, thought it was strange...
Edited on Thu Jul-09-09 12:57 AM by CoffeeCat
...that Michael Jackson made his children wear masks, veils and other disguises.

I just chalked it up to more of Michael's strange behavior.

I heard an interview, the other day, with one of Michael's close friends (I can't remember who). This person
said that wherever Michael and the kids went--they were mobbed by people and photographers, and that it was
chaotic and hard for the kids. Knowing what he went through as a child, Michael was determined to allow his
children SOME normalcy at times.

So, he covered their faces, so they would not be recognizable. So, close friends of Michael's or people in his
security detail could take the children out...to a bookstore or to a park---and no one would recognize those
kids when they were without their father. So, they could swing in the park or browse through kids' books at
Barnes and Noble and be just like normal kids.

The friend of Michael Jackson said that Jackson felt like he never had a moment's peace--and that he never
got to be a child and just play or hang out without a mob chasing him. He wanted to make sure that his
children could have some peace and freedom.

I thought that was very sensitive, giving--and pretty darn clever of Jackson.

...and I felt like a myopic jerk for being so judgemental.

5. For all my skepticism about MJ
the fact that he shielded his kids from the media was not something I faulted him for. I thought it was a smart move.

8. But if he'd let the kids to to places with their Nanny...
... instead of with him, no one would have known who the kids were in the first place.

12. I think he did let the kids go places with other people
He just disguised them when they were with him, therefore enabling them to go freely with others.

7. I think the family is trying to give the kids some "normalcy".
Michael should never have had them hiding their faces in the first place. That was weird.

The way they were presented at the funeral was perfect IMO.

9. I just have to point out that...
...maybe the Jackson family--aren't too wise about what is "normal" and what isn't.

That's kind of a scary thought to me...that Joe Jackson would be the arbiter of what is good for children.

33. the jacksons lives were not normal.
it was explained above why he had the kids wear masks when they were with him - it was so that when they were out without him they could go without masks and be normal because no one really knew what they looked like - because of the masks.

This was a great and wonderful thing Michael did for his kids, why can't it be viewed that way instead of just shrugging and thinking everything MJ does is freakish. He was a very sinsitive man and I can't imagine the hurt he felt everyday becaue of careless and mean and thoughtless people and what they did to him.

May he rest in peace, somewhere, finally, becaue this earth must have been fucking hell for him.

Jackson raised them abnormally with all the veils and masks. Now they can come into the light.

17. You make it sound like they wore the masks 24/7. They didn't.
They only wore them when they were out in public with him so that the paparazzi wouldn't recognize them when they did go out with the nanny. It appears he had the right idea because whenever one of those kids step foot out of their house, someone is around to take a photo.

25. LOL There are kids that were raised in suburban homes
by parents who did not put veils over their faces but STILL had psychological damage. That argument is so irrelevent. Michael Jackson was one of the most photographed individuals in the world - he couldn't go out to even get ice cream from the corner store if he wanted to. So maybe he wanted to protect his children's identities so that they could be unrecognized in their teen and adult years. They didn't ask to be famous, their father was. And I don't blame him for that. Judge not when you don't stand in their shoes. Did you ever think about that?
