Anyone seen "Paranormal Activity" yet?
My son saw it Friday night and sent me a text from the theater saying it scared the crap out of EVERYONE in the sold out theater. I've heard it's supposed to be the scariest movie ever and was wondering if there was any truth to that claim. Should I spend the $8 (actually less because I'd go see it Friday afternoon and the matinee price is cheaper) or should I not believe the hype?

1. I watched a trailer of it today-
Looks like it could be good, but a lot of the footage
reminded me of Blairwitch- too much hand held crap for me.
Makes me sea sick.

I'm going to wait until it hits HBO or Showtime...
They ALL do, eventually.

4. That's usually what I do
I wait to see it on HBO, but because so many people I know are buzzing about it, I think it might be fun to see it in the theater. My son is a huge horror fan and for him to text me as soon as he saw it, it's gotta be scary.

I made the mistake of going to see "Blair Witch" at night, so that's another reason I'd go see this one during the day!

6. Report says that it was made on a budget of $11,000.
and it's grossed about $7.5M so far.

9. Really? Didn't "Blair Witch" have the same kind of numbers?
Made for next to nothing, then raked in millions? My son also said it's only playing in a limited number of theaters, so I'm sure they're very happy with what they've made so far!

2. the reviews
are overwhelmingly positive.

i usually check rotten tomatoes, for a meta view, as well as metacritic and IMDB.

i listen to ebert (although i do disagree with him sometimes) and he gave it 3 1/2 stars. for a horror movie, that's a very high rating.

(ebert was shockingly wrong on clockwork orange, but i like his reviews in general).

based on the reviews i have read, it sounds like a winner.

and drag me to hell comes out on DVD TOMORROW! sam raimi KNOWS his cheezy horror.

5. Well, then I think I'm going to treat myself on Friday
Normally, I don't pay attention to the critics. I've heard great reviews from some people I know, so if they like it AND the critics like it, then it's probably worth the $8.

MY TV & CABLE BOX JUST TURNED THEMSELVES OFF!!! Wonder if that's a sign??

3. The plot sounds like my experience when I bought my house
Except instead of a demon, its was just a meth head that lived next door. Oh well.

7. LOL...sorry about that!
Actually, I was convinced the last apartment I lived in before becoming a homeowner was haunted. The first time I went to look at it, I just had an overwhelming "weird" feeling come over me that something very bad had happened there. Of course, I moved in anyway and had a couple of disturbing episodes during the 3 years I was there.

OK, my cable box has turned itself on and off 4 times in the past few minutes....

10. Just let the dogs out for the last tinkle of the night
and now I'm creeped out!! Any saging & candle lighting will have to wait until tomorrow because I'm falling asleep. Now, if the cable box & TV turn themselves back on in the middle of the night.....
:scared:

So far, I haven't needed to smudge, but will definitely keep that in mind!

13. Not the least bit scary.
I did laugh at a few points though. Others I was with were scared though, but I don't get it. And I do sometimes get scared from movies.

17. I still haven't seen it
and my son, who's seen it THREE TIMES already, is driving me nuts to go see it! I still plan on going during the day because I'm a chicken, even though my son's advice was to see it at night because the crowd would be bigger & better. He said the crowd reaction definitely increases the scariness factor...so I'll shoot for this Friday, as early in the day as possible!

14. It's being hyped up like Blair Witch.
It'll probably be just as annoying and shrill.

18. But that's the thing with this movie
and why I'm interested in seeing it...I haven't seen anything on TV. Everything I've heard about it, with the exception of this thread, has all been word of mouth from people who've seen it or those who know people who've seen it. Everyone's said the same thing...that it scared the crap out of everyone in the theater.

Now, I did see a trailer on TV for another movie, "The Fourth Kind" I think it's called. THAT looked to be a freaky movie, too!

19. We saw it
Most of the theater, including the guys, were screaming and jumping.

I found it very creepy and couldn't sleep that night. Mr cn, on the other hand, found it rather slow and boring. His only amusement was the crowd's reactions.
