Michael Jackson was a hell of a singer.

I only say this because to the casual music fan, it might not be apparent. Whether it was because so much about him — his dance moves, his style, his swagger — was so dynamic, or because he rarely spoke above a whisper, or even because he frequently peppered his verses with vocal ticks (like those oft-imitated "Hee-hee's"), Jackson remains one of the most underrated vocal artists in music history.

And that's a shame, because his voice was a wondrous thing, capable of reaching both towering heights (the final verse of "Rock With You") and depths ("Childhood"). It was technical, but it was also decidedly human, too, full of pump-priming rage ("Man in the Mirror") one minute, tethered tenderness the next ("She's Out of My Life"). It was a finely tuned instrument that, when unfurled, revealed all the pain and frustration and joy of Jackson's life ... a window inside the man's soul. It could stop you in your tracks and raise the hair on the back of your neck. It was something to behold.

7. That's fair, BUT

Do you need to make 10 million threads about the guy? Can't you consolidate it into a few threads so the forums aren't clogged up like Robin Williams' arteries? Like all the articles about Jacko can go into one thread, all the condemnations of the Jacko-haters in another thread, all the fawning hero posts in another thread...etc.

4. I think it's great MJ was an amazing singer....since he was 10 years old!!!

NO other kid anywhere can sing like that ever. That's what is amazing to me. He wasn't just the best entertainer in the world at 30 years old or 50 years old or whenever, but he was the best entertainer in the world at 10 years old! Amazing guy.

Not mine. Not lots of people. Everyone has different tastes, whether it be jokes, food, temperature, clothing, music, etc.

Clearly Michael Jackson was a popular entertainer. I can respect that as I would for any craftsman, in his or her element, engrossed in his or her work. But that doesn't mean I will connect with any of his music. Different people connect to different types of sound.

Give me whale songs and sonar pings. Classical piano in E Dorian.

I'm afraid pop music just doesn't resonate with some people. I am sorry for your loss though. He had a fairly tragic personal life, and no one deserves that.
