Susan Boyle makes chart history with No.1 debut
Susan Boyle sells 700K of debut disc, best female debut in SoundScan era, top debut of 2009

10:43 am EST, Wednesday December 2, 2009

NEW YORK (AP) -- Move over Beyonce. Step aside Taylor Swift. There's a new queen of pop, and her name is Susan Boyle.

The British talent contestant-turned-singing sensation sold just over 700,000 copies of her debut album, "I Dreamed a Dream," debuting at No. 1. Her record label, Columbia Records, says that not only gives her the best first week sales of 2009, but also the best-selling album debut by a woman in the Billboard SoundScan era.

It's been a whirlwind year for the 47-year-old Boyle, who became an instant star when she appeared on "Britain's Got Talent."

6. I want to see her and Mick sing Wild Horses together. Wouldn't that be a riot?

8. Yes it would!
I'd go one further and have her do a duet of "As Tears Go By" with Marianne Faithfull. Mick can sing back up!

9. Okay, we're on a roll here...and you just know...
she's sung "Under My Thumb" in the shower.

There's an edge to her that they're trying to smooth off. It was barely a year ago she had to pick up a bicycle and throw it at some yobs who wouldn't lay off.

7. A true, workingclass hero, who is actually...working class.
Let's face it, Springsteen was a multi-millionaire before the age of 30.

Put her in a box with Taylor Swift and Beyonce, she very well might win the singing contest AND any fistfight that breaks out.
