Johnny Hallyday admitted to hospital

Veteran French rock star Johnny Hallyday has been admitted to hospital in the US with a post-operative infection, his spokesman has said.

The 66-year-old, who had surgery in Paris to correct a slipped disc two weeks ago, is being monitored in a clinic in Los Angeles.

His publicist in Paris added that the singer was stable and expected to be discharged in the next week.

Hallyday is a huge star in France but relatively unknown in other countries.

my French teacher used to keep in her classroom. I remember seeing that he was this big star in France and for the first time developing a real sense that there were things and people that were wildly popular in other countries that I had never even heard of.

Johnny is kind of like the French version of Elvis, only he's lived much longer, and is not what you would call a global superstar, obviously.
