NBC’s Slide From TV Heights to Troubled Punch Lines

By TIM ARANGO
January 17, 2010

At its height, NBC was the very model of what a television network should be. With iconic programming, enviable ratings and spectacular business success, the peacock network delivered plenty of laughs along the way with “The Cosby Show,” “Seinfeld” and “Friends.”

Nobody is laughing anymore.

Today the network is in shambles, brought down not just by the challenges facing broadcast television — fragmenting audiences, an advertising downturn — but also by a series of executive missteps that have made its prime-time lineup a perennial loser and, most recently, turned its late night programming schedule into a media circus that threatens the lucrative “Tonight Show” franchise.

1. The only thing I watch on NBC is Law & Order & it's didter SVU.
I'm a die hard fan and always tune in to that one for sure. Once in a while I will check out the opening of SNL. They do a decent job in their opening skits. They really need to pick better shows!

2. I can't wait to see what they do to the Olympics this time
There's only one show on NBC I watch regularly and that's The Office.

3. I'm glad CBS picked up Medium when the idiots at NBC canceled it.

4. I only watch an hour of NBC a week
Community (mostly on Hulu due to scheduling conflicts) and 30 Rock. Very funny shows. And I do watch the Olympics, although the only Winter Olympic sports I like are speed skating (Colbert FTW!) and curling.

Yes, curling.

5. Community and The Office the only things worth watching on NBC
30 Rock is SO overrated. Merlin was good but not given a decent chance. Another one I liked was Kings (was that on NBC?)
