Scarlett Johansson, victim of the SoCal real estate crash
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 04:45 PM by marmar

The 4 bedroom, 5 and a half bath home was built in the 1930's and rests on nearly an acre.

Not even A-list celebrities are impervious to the topsy-turvy real estate market. According to CNN Money and the San Francisco Chronicle, Scarlett Johansson bought a stunning Spanish style villa in Hollywood Hills in 2007 for $7 million, threw down even more cash to remodel it to her exacting specifications—and now it’s being listed by Sotheby's for over $2 million less than what she paid. We’ve got snapshots and more details here.

The interiors are lovely, albeit surprisingly laid-back for a star who’s known for being so va-va-voom (not that we were expecting pin-up girl posters or anything, but the décor does feel sweeter and more approachable than we would have guessed coming from someone we always associate with big-time glamour).

1. I say it's still worth $7 Million.
Not much more, but that's quite a snazzy place in a good location.

Sorry, no sympathy...$2 million is a drop in the bucket for her...
...she's hardly hurting.

3. Houses are for living in, not for juggling
So what if it's only "worth" five million now? She likes living there? Then it's money well spent.

11. I think they're white or light grey
not terribly practical for a dining room. I loathe the wallpaper in the bedroom but it's not bad in the dining room.

Still, her taste isn't over the top and much of that place is practical, although I doubt that trophy kitchen is used for more than boiling eggs, making coffee, and dipping restaurant food out of its cartons.

She should count her blessings. She's lost less than 30% on that place and most people are looking at 40%+ losses in a lot of parts of California.

I don't think she's in equivalent danger of homelessness, anyway.

12. very nice and homey. Not at all big Hollywood. I like how she preserved
the original architecture and paid homage to the era as opposed to tearing down and building a monstrosity. And she has nice 1040's touches sprinkled throught the decor. Nice job

15. Hit or miss the design, not consistant over all, the
patio and pool area are lovely. Still why move? If you fix it up the way you like have a seat and stay awhile.
