Betty White SHOULD host SNL
Edited on Thu Feb-18-10 07:29 AM by Syrinx
I LOVE Betty White, and I'm not even gay.

I remember when a white-topped Desi Arnaz hosted in the old days. And Ruth
Gordan. And Broderick Crawford too.

So why can't Betty White? I think it would be awesome.

She could do riffs on her nympho character from the MTMS. And her dumbass character from the Golden Girls (maybe as a tea-bagging Palin supporter). And, seeing as how SNL loves lazy game-show bits, they could do something with her old stint as her late husband's Password sidekick?

SNL has sucked lately. But Betty White would be awesome. I hope Lorne isn't too stupid to see the potential.

EDIT: I forgot to add that she still refuses to do nudity.

Betty was also perfectly cast in the movie "Lake Placid" where she was found feeding a cow to a giant alligator, that she previously fed her husband. She'd be perfect for SNL.

4. I've always loved Betty White.
From Sue Ann Nivens to Rose Nyland and beyond, she's hilarious.

I'd go for having her host SNL - I think she'd be great! She would certainly be something different from what they've had on lately...she actually has talent! ;)

5. To host SNL nowadays you pretty much have to be under 30...
...and the Flavor of the Month as far as being an actor/actress/singer goes. You've got to be 'white hot' in terms of being the absolutely latest thing, etc. You've got to be on the hottest show, or promoting the hottest new movie.

I bought the 4th Season SNL DVD set...you wouldn't believe the people who hosted that year. Milton Berle hosted for gawdsakes! So did Walter Matthau...and Maureen Stapleton! Not to mention Eric Idle and Michael Palin of Monty Python. Palin hosted twice that season!

And the skits...the skits were absolutely brilliant. Now all I can stomach of SNL is the show opener because it's usually political satire, and possibly a bit of Weekend Update. Tina Fey as Sarah Palin was of course awesome, but that had almost everything to do with Fey's bang on, doppleganger impression more than anything.

6. If you missed her on Chelsea Lately a few months ago, go to YouTube.
Watch her Chelsea Lately appearance on YouTube. There are a lot of funny-as-hell guests on that show, and Betty White was the funniest one I've ever seen. She nearly brought down the house! It's a must see for BW fans!

7. backlash against Betty White
Sad but it seems like the inevitable backlash against Betty White has already begun.

Notorious Betty White Hates Your Grandmother
"Grandmother. That gentle word evokes images of Hallmark cards at Christmastime, hearty hugs and the scent of potpourri. Maybe that word also represents your anchor of family faith, reminding us that Jesus Christ is vital in our days and nights no matter how bitter a life we have lived nor how weak one’s mind has become. Yet one X-rated comedienne has dedicated her career to destroying that beautiful image. She wants nothing more than to make Grandmothers everywhere icons of radical lifestyles and cultural “hipness”. The woman in question is aging actress Betty White and she is using our televisions to pump the American family full of uncensored propaganda and celebrity-style “ethics.”
