The best Album I have heard in 10 years... if not more

And you won't believe who it comes from...

A friend turned me on to this, it has the most socially conscience lyrics I have heard in a long time, the album is setup in a "radio" format with chats about the demise of America between songs. It is at once haunting, thought provoking, and brilliant. And it comes from the most unlikely of sources. Shooter Jennings. Son of the famous outlaw country performer Waylon Jennings. The name of his new band is Heirophant and the album is called Black Ribbons. Seems to me that Shooter got ahold of some good drugs and some Pink Floyd albums and went to town. If you are a fan of 60's and 70's socially conscience music, this is right up your alley.

13. I've always loved Hank Sr.

My Granny was a huge fan, and I listened to all her records. Hank III certainly does his Granddaddy proud... it gives me chills to think how much they sound alike...

I have no use for Bocephus, however... he just didn't get the gene I guess... 'cept the drinkin' one;)

I like to think I'm rare in that I love the old school country as well as metal... I loves me a winsome juxtaposition! :D

6. Well I have a serious problem with Hank Jr... I'll check out III if he's nothing like

his brother... I'm a rocker at heart but I'm a roadie for a big country act so I hear lots of C&W stuff. I had to do a one off show for Hank Jr and the guy is a drunken racist asshat. Got onstage drunk, did a short racist rant about the N----r in the White House and then proceeded to give his fans a 45 minute(the absolute minimum in his contract) crappy set before stumbling back to his bus.

III breaks the mold... he sounds a lot like his grand-pappy and does a lot of excellent classic covers... but it really gets me when he goes into his metal tirade! Oh man... a delicious melange of the country I grew up on and the metal I gave my soul to! :P

Possibly the drinking and drugs, but not the attitude so far. He will even sing his grandpa's songs because it means so much to the older crowd, although not as much as time goes on.

And yes, Hank Jr is a drunken racist sexist useless excuse for a human. He has quite the reputation in Montana, believe me. He had pissed off half the state when I left in '96, maybe he's pissed off the other half by now.

I have everything they have done as a band and as solo acts. And yeah he was in top form on that show.. the etherial sound Gilmour gets from his instrument is unmatched by any before or since...
