James Bond film suspended amid MGM uncertainty
Good. Daniel Craig sucks as Bond. Next.
_______________________________

The production of the next James Bond film has been suspended "indefinitely" because of uncertainty over the future of film company MGM, producers say.

Producers Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said they did not know when work on the 23rd Bond film would resume and there was no date for its release.

Wilson and Broccoli, of EON Productions, said: "Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on Bond 23 indefinitely."

Daniel Craig, who made his Bond debut in Casino Royale in 2006, said: "I have every confidence in Barbara and Michael's decision and look forward to production resuming as quickly as possible."

1. This has been a lucrative franchise for a long time... one way or another
I think 007 is going to be with us for quite a while longer.

But I do miss Shirley Bassey.

3. It appears that Shirley is alive and well, still recording and performing.

4. Her signature songs on the early 007 films were unsettlingly good.
What a voice, just for starters.

the talk of Lady Gaga. Put Lady Gaga IN the movie!

The guy that wrote the signature Bond guitar riff says they've been waiting for a voice like Boyle's for a long time. Some other composers of Bond themes are backing her too.

Oh how I love Bassey's Goldfinger.

2. Not sure if it's Craigs fault or the direction they went in..
I didn't really mind Craig but I didn't like either of the new Bond films. If I wanted to see Jason Bourne I'd go see Jason Bourne. Go back to Bond being Bond.

6. That's the perfect analogy. Jason Bourne.
I don't hate Craig, but he has the personality of a paper bag as Bond.

The flavor of the series is dead.

And if I want to see Jason Bourne, I'd go see Jason Bourne.

11. One of the formulas of the Bond series is that they
change with the times. Casino Royale was not a bad film. Better than the last one anyways. I think it was a mistake to do away with the Q character though.

The best film imho is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

If by Bond you mean every roger moore movie ever made as well as the die another day, and other bond movies that are more sci fi than the origninal source material I would vote loudly no. The new bond is somewhat similar to the new batman in it's attmept to ground the series in reality and keep the camp to a minimum. There are many roger moore and timothy dalton(besides his first) movies on dvd as well as you only live twice you can watch on dvd.

Can I assume you rank moonraker ahead of from russia with love?

5. For me, Craig is tied with Connery.
I liked both of Craig's forays. Maybe they'll forget the Bond in 3-D idea they were floating after Avatar watered the greed tree.

8. And nothing but bad ass.
As it was pointed out upstream, If I wanted to see Jason Bourne, I'd go see Jason Bourne.

Yes, the films are exciting and satisfyingly violent, but they lack the Bond flavor.

Try reading the original source material, not watching the Bond in outer space movies or bond with invisible car movies or bond with flying cars that also go underwater movies. I am glad to see a bond movie that does honor the original source which started going somewhat awry with goldfinger and his dependence on gadgets. On her majesty's secret service and from russia with love is about as close as your going to get to what bond was intended to be. And the bourne movies owe a huge debt to bond, as the revamped bond owes a little to bourne.

21. +1
In my opinion, Casino Royale was the best Bond film since From Russia With Love. A friend of mine said that for the first time she understood Bond's character. If it resembled Bourne it's only because the literary Bond was Bourne before Bourne was Bourne.

Bond threw the letter down. Mechanically he brushed his fingers together. Suddenly he banged his temples with his fists and stood up. For a moment he looked out towards the quiet sea, then he cursed aloud, one harsh obscenity.

His eyes were wet and he dried them.

He pulled on a shirt and trousers and with a set cold face he walked down and shut himself in the telephone booth.

While he was getting through to London, he calmly reviewed the facts of Vesper's letter. They all fitted. The little shadows and question-marks of the past four weeks, which his instinct had noted but his mind rejected, all stood out now like signposts.

He saw her now only as a spy. Their love and his grief were relegated to the boxroom of his mind. Later, perhaps they would be dragged out, dispassionately examined, and then bitterly thrust back with other sentimental baggage he would rather forget. Now he could only think of her treachery to the Service and to her country and of the damage it had done. His professional mind was completely absorbed with the consequences - the covers which must have been blown over the years, the codes which the enemy must have broken, the secrets which must have leaked from the centre of the very section devoted to penetrating the Soviet Union.

It was ghastly. God knew how the mess would be cleared up.

He ground his teeth. Suddenly Mathis's words came back to him: 'There are plenty of really black targets around,' and, earlier, 'What about SMERSH? I don't like the idea of these chaps running aroundFrance killing anyone they feel has been a traitor to their precious political system.'

How soon Mathis had been proved right and how soon his own little sophistries had been exploded in his face!

While he, Bond, had been playing Red Indians through the years (yes, Le Chiffre's description was perfectly accurate), the real enemy had been working quietly, coldly, without heroics, right there at his elbow.

He suddenly had a vision of Vesper walking down a corridor with documents in her hand. On a tray. They just got it on a tray while the cool secret agent with a Double O number was gallivanting round the world - playing Red Indians.

His fingernails dug into the palms of his hands and his body sweated with shame.

10. Guess it's a matter of taste -
I think Craig was the best Bond since Connery, though that's not difficult.

14. Really?
So easy that they have gone through Lazenby(underated), Moore(worst), Dalton(close 2nd to craig), what's his name before they could come close to Connery?

16. I guess I see what you mean
With all due respect though dalton in my opinion comes in a very close second place to Craig. And in all fairness Goldfinger while considered possibly the best did start the downward spiral in it's reliance on gadgetry and you only live twice is almost on par with the Moore films in it's totally unbelievable premise and should just be called bond becomes a ninja in japan.
