Legendary Pictures Godzilla 2012 teaser art.

Cool pic, and it confirms two crucial things. One, Godzilla will look like Godzilla, and two, he will breathe fire this time. :)

1. I did not even know there was a new Godzilla movie in the works.

I thought Toho wasn't going to allow one for 10 years. Just got done watching Godzilla: Final Wars. A bit of a disappointment.

4. Final Wars is a bit of a mess.

It was certainly trying to capture the feel of of the 60's and 70's era Godzilla flicks (they even use music from Godzilla vs MechaGodziila in it), and it's clear the director was heavily into those movies the most. Final Wars is almost a retelling of Destroy All Monsters.

Unfortunately, he tried to cram too much into the story and it ends up missing it's mark a bit. It's an enjoyable, if silly, movie, but after the previous three (GMK, Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Tokyo S.O.S.), all of which were solid, Final Wars was a bit disappointing to me as well. It gets better on repeated viewings (Don Frye is chews up the scenery nicely), but it could have dropped the Power Ranger like parts for sure. And it's clear the director was so influenced by The Matrix that the lead character even looks like Keanu Reeves. It could have been better.

But yes, we have a new one on the way, made in America but fully backed by Toho (they have distribution rights in Japan, so it's more of a joint venture than GINO was), Yoshimitsu Banno (director of Godzilla vs The Smog Monster) is one of the producers as well, and the guys at Legendary seem intent on getting it right this time. Fingers crossed. :)

5. Always nice to meet another fan.

If you've ever seen Versus then you can totally see it's influence on Godzilla: Final Wars. I'm crossing every digit. Wonder if it will be Godzilla good guy or bad guy. It's blasphemy, but I would prefer good guy.

6. I loved Versus.

Zombie flicks are behind only Godzilla flicks for me. I'm a hardcore G fan and have been since my father let me watch the original one night when I was 6 (a long time ago lol). :)

I suspect Godzilla will be a bad guy in the new one, but I don't care either way. The original script for Godzilla '98 had him fighting another monster, so he was going to be a good guy in that one until Emmerich and Devlin tossed the script away and did what they wanted (boooo). As long as cities get stomped I'm happy.

7. I thought Versus was a good effort on a low budget...

I've heard rumors about the sequel which would be awesome.

You mean the script where it spoke about the origins of dragons and Godzilla fought the chimera. Oh, what could have been if they made that movie instead?!

12. A bad Godzilla movie is still better than the vast majority of other movies.

I did not really like Final Wars the first time I saw it, but it has grown on me some.

The cool thing about Final Wars is seeing so many of the old-timer Godzilla actors and actresses. We get Kumi Mizuno, Akira Takarada and Kenji Sahara. They all go back to the 60's (and the original Gojira in Takarada's case). That was cool. :)

Any sign of movement on a new movie is excellent news. I'll eventually end up loving the new design...like all of the rest.

I doubt it's exactly what he'll end up looking like.

One thing I'm still curious about is will it be all CGI, all suitmation, or a mix of the two?
