Russian communists demand Sting be arrested for promoting marijuana

Sting was last night facing demands for his arrest from angry Russian Communists, who have objected to his tour of their country.

The former Police frontman played in Moscow yesterday after radical left-wing activists condemned him for his 'public promotion of drugs'.

The Communists of St Petersburg and Leningrad said the 58-year-old singer should be arrested after calling for the legalisation of marijuana in a blog post in April.

A spokesman said: 'Such a figure, however talented his screaming fans may consider him, cannot be allowed to appear on stage in the Russian Federation.'

The radical group accused the Russian police of 'rotten liberalism' and double standards for its rigorous enforcement of drugs laws on Russian citizens but alleged softer stance

Alcoholism is a huge problem in Russia and has cut their life expectancy dramatically, particularly so for men.

What's the problem with that? Although I do agree with you, it's their choice to drink alcohol. And I don't see a problem with those side-effects in citizens of a country with whom we're not all too buddy-buddy, *especially* if it's them that bring this problem upon themselves.

I have a nephew who is half Persian (Iranian) and you can't tell him from any other American, yet we're not "all too buddy-buddy" with Iran.

Bring any Russian kid over here as an infant and raise him as an American and you wouldn't be able to tell him from a "real 'Murkin" either.

The differences between us are political, it doesn't make those who live in other countries any less human.

the #2 power in the world. A disfunctional citizenry makes for a disfuctional government, and I, for one, don't want a disfunctional government in control of 20,000+ nukes.

People are quaking in their boots about N Korea and their half-dozen or so warheads, and are even more hysterical about Iran which has NONE, but should be dismissive of Russia?
