Matt LeBlanc Caught in Foul-Mouthed 'Friends' Rant

http://www.popeater.com/2010/09/23/matt-leblanc-joey-friends-rant/

Matt LeBlanc is not joking around when he says he wants to put his 'Friends' past behind him. On Tuesday evening, a UK Mirror reporter called him Joey, the character he played on the hit TV series, and LeBlanc went crazy.

The incident started when the 43-year-old actor clumsily knocked into the reporter's table, sending glasses flying. "You all right, Joey? How YOU do-in?" the reporter joked. But LeBlanc wasn't laughing and allegedly raged, "I'm not Joey. Don't you dare call me Joey. The papers say I'm finished, so don't call me f**king Joey. I want to leave that all behind. I'm moving on."

And he didn't stop there. "I'm not Joey. For the last time. I'm not f**king Joey. It's Matt. Matt LeBlanc. Joey's in the past. I'm trying to do something new," he yelled.

In a recent interview, LeBlanc insisted he didn't mind still being linked with his famous 'Friends' alter-ego, saying, "If people really believe me as that character, I have done my job. I don't look on it as a negative thing. I take it as a compliment."

2. Such is the caveat of playing a character in a TV series
It's really easy to kill your career. Just ask Gillian Anderson, or Henry Winkler... there's actually a long list.

LeBlanc's problem is, in large part, that he's a really crappy actor.

4. So is Keanu...actually no one I can think of is as bad as Keanu...
Edited on Thu Sep-23-10 03:11 PM by YOY
but there's Keanu Reeves...right there...on the A list. Yet Alex Winter, who is HILARIOUS if you've ever seen any of his stuff, still on the B-D list.

And in case you didn't know...Alex is the "other guy" in this poster.

5. He cried like a baby when he found out the "Joey" spinoff wasn't paying $1 million per episode.
I forgot the actual ridiculous amount the "Friends" cast received per episode in the final season, but they did hit the $1 million mark.

"Joey" had a smaller payday. LeBlanc was not pleased.

3. Kind of don't blame him.

He's been typecast. Travolta couldn't get out of being Vincent Barbarino/Saturday Night Fever until Tarantino showed us that he could be so much more.

Now his career is back in full swing.

LeBlanc and many many many many other actors are stuck until someone takes the chance to let them be seen as something else.

Not quite a Mel Gibson moment if it's not laced with sexist/racial/antisemitic slurs...

7. The thing is...
...I remember LeBlanc from his pre-"Friends" sitcom work, and he is essentially a one-trick pony.

And I don't consider his role in either the lousy "Lost In Space" movie or his even worse role as Lucy Liu's boyfriend in the "Charlie's Angels" movies to be much better.

If he's taken some acting classes and has the actual ability to transcend his past, great. Otherwise, he was, is, and will always be "Joey."

8. Probably...but like I said, we'd have said the same of Travolta before Pulp Fiction.

10. The entire cast of Gilligan's Island...
Were forevermore their castaway characters.

Ron Howard would probably still be Opie Taylor/Richie Cunningham if he hadn't gone behind the camera and shown his real talent.

Matlock isn't far from Andy Taylor, now that I think of it.

Yep, typecasting happens to a lot of people.

I have to say, Matt LeBlanc looks nice with a touch of grey.

11. HIs problem isn't being type cast as Joey
It's being associated with a show as sucky as Friends in the first place.

Most overrated piece a crap I ever saw. There were (not many) worse shows but none that they made such a BFD out of.

12. The worst sin "Friends" committed was letting Ross "get the girl" at the end
Now, if it ended on a note of "Ross, you're a wimp, and a wimp reaps a wimp's harvest, and she's on that plane and GONE," I'd have thought "Score one for REAL LIFE."

In reality, they voted in favor of the countless "Friends Fans" who have, in all likelihood, named their pets and / or kids Ross, Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Monica or Chandler.

And I know DU well enough to know that SOMEONE is going to come after me for KNOWING all of those names. It's not a matter of "if." It's a matter of "WHEN."

13. Don't even get me started on that friggin Ross
I never saw a character on TV I just wanted to whomp the shit out of as much as Ross.

Well, OK, maybe "Frasier Crane" from Cheers. Prissy bastard.

14. Ross should have had his ass brutally kicked in at least every third episode.
Seriously, they should have taken one of the dinosaur bones from one of the exhibits in his museum and clubbed him over and over and over again until he GREW THE FUCK UP.

And as we know now, that NEVER HAPPENED.

15. And not only did the whiny little twit wind up with "the girl"
He wound up with the hottest chick on the whole show.

Sumbitch must've had "hidden assets".

I watched maybe 4 episodes of that miserable POS show. That's 2 hours of my life I can never get back.
