Watched the movie "Monsters" the other night.
It's not your typical big monster movie at all, which normally would piss me off, but this was pretty good. It's a very low key movie, where the characters are the real story and the creatures are basically just a backdrop for their story. There's very little action in this, but the monsters are pretty neat when they are on screen. Lovecraft fans will like the creature design.

The pace reminded me of the movie Moon (my fave movie from last year). Don't expect a monster mash with hulking monsters duking it out in big cities. With the wrong expectations this movie will be a letdown, but if people go into expecting a human movie and not a monster movie I think many will be pleasantly surprised. I think it's one of the fresher takes on the genre that I've seen (and as many of you know, the monster genre is my fave, and I've seen them all). I liked Cloverfield, but liked this one a lot more. The movie is a romantic version of The Road as penned by Lovecraft. :)

Right now it's available on On Demand, Xbox Live, Playstation Marketplace, Amazon, and Vudu, and will have a limited theatrical release on Oct. 29th.

3. I was blown away by that movie.
It shows that a good story doesn't need to have whiz bang action and effects to be good. Duncan Jones has more plans for Moon, apparently....

From Wiki, so take it with a grain of salt...

Following on from the success of Moon, Jones is currently planning a follow-up which will serve as an epilogue. "Sam (Rockwell) has agreed to do a little cameo in the next film," says Jones, who ultimately hopes to do three films in the Moon series.<7>

It was announced in 2009 that he will direct the feature film adaptation of Escape from the Deep: The Epic Story of a Legendary Submarine and Her Courageous Crew by Alex Kershaw.<8>

Jones also revealed that he will be doing "another science fiction film, called Mute, which takes place in a future Berlin. It's a Blade Runner-inspired piece, a little love letter to that film."<9> The premise is that in future Berlin, a woman's disappearance causes a mystery for her partner, a mute bartender. He must go up against the city’s gangsters to solve the mystery.<10> The film takes place in the same timeline as Jones' Moon, and will feature Sam Rockwell in a cameo as his character Sam Bell.<11>

He will direct Summit Entertainment project Source Code<12>, a science-fiction thriller from Vendome Pictures, which will be produced by Mark Gordon. Actor Jake Gyllenhaal will play the lead role in the film.<13>
