I've made the plunge into 3D home theater.

I recently ordered an Acer H5360 and it should be arriving early next week. I know that 3D technology for home use is really in its infancy, and it can be a real pain to get things working properly. From what I've heard, I really won't be able to use this projector with a 3D Bluray player or view 3D content through my cable box, rather, it looks like I'll be connecting it to my HTPC and using that for Blurays, gaming and such. In the future, there will be adapters that will allow standalone Bluray players and Cable boxes to work in 3D, but for now, it seems like my computer is my only bet.

Does anyone here have any experience with 3D at home? Have your experiences been mostly positive or negative? Can anyone provide any tips? I've already got PowerDVD 10 and it seems to be a great program to work in conjunction with a 3D display, but I'm interested in other apps which might help display 3D content. I'm hoping to avoid buying Nvidia's 3D Vision kit for games if at all possible, but I haven't heard of anyone gaming on this particular PJ without it. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I got my projector as a refurb. It cost about the same amount as a 32" non-3D HDTV.

Of course, I don't own a television or watch much entertainment programing anywhere, so I have to get my 3D the primitive, old fashioned way. I have to look at real objects!

But it's UBER expensive and effect is very dependent on the angle at which you sit. You'll be able to see it in Nintendo's new 3DS which should be coming out in a month or two. Considering how relatively cheap shutter glasses are, it's an annoyance I'm willing to live with. I just wish that more of the glasses could be folded up like traditional sunglasses.

now they're talking next year sometime. And apparently it will be very expensive, which is disappointing, as I really want one.

Not so much that it's delayed, but that it will be expensive. Nintendo used to be about affordable gaming. I've owned a ton of Nintendo stuff: NES, SNES, N64, Virtual Boy, Gamebox and most recently, the DS. Both I and my significant other have DS's and we still use them regularly. It's a great, intuitive system that's fantastic for multiplayer. I was really excited when I first heard about the Wii (then the Revolution), but when I heard that it was pretty much a souped up Gamecube and it would be $250 at release, I no longer had any interest in one. Amazingly, Nintendo is winning the hardware wars this generation. I guess they did find the key to attracting casual gamers, I'm just amazed they've attracted so many with hardware that's basically a generation old.

And they have a very small viewing angle. You step outside the sweet spot and the 3D effect disappears. I spent a bit more than $400 on my projector and it will be displaying to my existing 100" screen. The first glassless TV sets will cost around $2000 for a 22" model. I'll pass on that, thanks. I don't mind looking a bit goofy in glasses, it's the effect that I'm looking for.
