How the 'Dancing' vote was hacked (for Bristol)
Source: MSNBC

John Roach writes - "Does Bristol Palin, the daughter of that politically powerful hockey mom from Alaska, have the best moves on "Dancing with the Stars"? Some critics say she's definitely improved as the season has progressed. But the judges consistently give her among the lowest marks -- meaning it's the people, the voters, who have kept her around for Monday night's finale.

And these voters, according to theories swirling on the Internet, appear to be politically motivated. Having Palin tear up the dance floor on national TV is considered a boost for the conservative Tea Party movement. To keep the votes coming in, the party is using social media effectively to rally the base behind the young Palin mom.

The campaign apparently includes exploitation of a loophole in ABC's e-mail voting feature. The loophole is explained as a technicality in the system that allows voters to register an infinite number of email addresses and vote, vote, vote. The e-mail addresses are never validated, such as what happens when you sign up for a Facebook or PayPal account.

"Lord have mercy, I voted for 3 hours online! I got 300 in," one Palin fan wrote in a comment on the HillBuzz blog, which is leading the charge on Bristol Palin's behalf".

I've read that the Palinizing of DWTS may be putting the show at risk, since the Teapartiers don't actually watch, and the traditional audience is falling away as the trainwreck continues, and may not come back for next season.

3. OH THE HUMANITY!!?!?!?!?! THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!?>!
What is the world coming to when you can't even trust the tea partiers anymore?!?!?!

ha ha, seriously, knock it off with the dwts bp bs.

It doesn't matter. We have a billion better things to focus on, here at DU and in each of our own lives than whether or not some idiot wins a tv show.

13. IMHO,
Some people feel this issue is relevant. After all, she is not just an ordinary idiot. She is the idiot daughter of the idiot quitter former Alaskan governor who now wants to run for POTUS.

I do agree that there are many serious issues we all need to focus on, but it doesn't hurt to lower the intensity level every once in a while. :)

27. Sheesh .... and I thought Momma had passed on ....
And I am pretty sure DUers have their own Momma's too ...

Look .... This isn't necessarily a story about 'BP' (British Petroleum ?) ... or DWTS ...

It's about Tea Party members, and other conservatives, showing their true colors as cheaters and ethically challenged buffoons ....

That IS relevant .... Like it or not ...

So .... Let me play YOUR momma ...

STFU and be nice to DUers ....

6. I hope everyone quits in protest if she 'wins' ...
... the pro dancers, judges, musicians, scenery folks, etc. Not that it was a serious 'contest' to begin with but now it's a fucking joke.

And the Palins are proving to the world that the only way they know how to win is to cheat and that they'll cheat however they can.

9. I know this is just TV
But it does show that Palin's supporters have no concept of fair play, and that they get their jollies from abusing systems and people. You think they won;t try to hack the vote in 12? They think their opinion is the only one that matters anyway.

16. No different than American Idol -
- same thing occurs. Not hacked - that's how the voting works. If you don't want Bristol to win then you'll need to vote for her competitor for 3 hours. Or you could just not watch and maybe read a book or work at a soup kitchen and actually help someone instead of being worried about votes for DWTS. Sheesh!

23. I have to admit to being slightly torn...
I'm not sure that advocating for Sarah Palin as the repuklian nominee is actually a bad thing but maybe I'm taking too big of a risk. I'm just not sure? Could she actually be elected president???? I would hope not but then if there were some weird October 2012 surprise then I guess maybe I should be careful what I wish for.

she could be elected president. I think there are quite a number in this country that could treat voting for the presidency like American Idol and/or DWTS.

30. Pretty funny - evidently ABC is getting bothered by
this at their forums. I went to post the URL of this article and referenced "teabaggers" in my post - and got the message that I was using the forbidden words "teabaggers" and "hillbuzz" in my post. LOL
