Blu-Ray re-release of Alien films finally includes the "cocoon" sequence.
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 05:29 PM by Fire Walk With Me
In years and years, I'd never heard of anyone else having known about this scene, cut from the original to maintain tension and pace. I'd only seen a still photo on a film poster.

I'd love to see Alien again, restored/remastered. Mmmm, darker darks, louder louds, creepier creepings...

Edit for splling. Edit again to include LINK???

1. Han shot first
There are many scenes that either never made it into the films or where edited later for video release for various reasons. I think the Han shot first is probably the most famous though.

5. Yeah, and I agree with the initial edit, that the scene would possibly damage
the tension and pacing.

The only thing is, it indicates that the creature is self-reproducing. No queen, no hive; a single creature or egg is all it takes to begin a cycle of destruction. The thing wasn't phased by prolonged exposure to vacuum (outer space proper). Truly chilling, versus a queen (kill the queen, kill the hive).

For those who don't know, the reason the first two humans taken (Brett and Dallas) left no blood and gore (there's even a statement about that) is that the creature uses the first victims to generate new eggs. Somehow the bodies are morphed into eggs, replete with face-huggers. Ripley, while fleeing the Nostromo after setting the self-destruct, drops down a hatch and finds what is left of Brett and Dallas. Dallas is still able to speak and supposedly begs her to kill him/them.

I am a fanboy. I believe the creature is far scarier like this, than as a hive being.

2. Is that the sequence with Don Ameche, Hume Cronyn and Steve Guttenberg?

And not to mention Tahnee Welch.

3. Theyre making a new Alien flim
in case you didnt know. Ridley Scott is making it. Its suppose to take place before the events in Alien occurred, and suppose to deal with "The Space Jockeys".

I think that was the only way you were going to get people interested in a new Alien film: What was that big alien thing sitting in that big chair?

4. I knew about it
I'll be getting the Blu-Rays, for sure, especially if they're including that scene.

7. It's funny...
I saw Alien when it first came out and that scene was in it. Later when I saw it on video I was wondering why they took it out. I guess they didn't get all the prints.
