Winfrey's audience begins Australian adventure

"SYDNEY (AP) — Oprah Winfrey's audience of 300 arrived in Australia today from the U.S. to begin enjoying the talk show queen's ultimate giveaway — an eight-day journey across the land Down Under.

Winfrey kicked off her 25th and final season of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in September by surprising fans with what she's billed as the trip of a lifetime. Australia's tourism minister has released previously secret itinerary details for the trip. The tour will include trips to the Great Barrier Reef, rainforests and the Outback.

The Australian media has renamed the famous Sydney Opera House the "Oprah" House. The Australian government is paying more than $4 million for the trip in exchange for expected tourism advertising." <cut>

I don't really pay much attention to such things. I guess it is old news as she announced her plans in September. I found out via watching Conan tonight. I'll admit being unemployed for over 7 months and no real hope of finding work anytime soon I am amazed (and jealous) at how much money is being spent by Oprah as well as the Australian government. A lot of people could have had a little more this holiday instead of 300 people getting a trip of a lifetime. Oprah has lost (IMO) all sense of reality.

1. This is the first I've heard of this
I must be really out of the loop.

It certainly does seem a tad excessive.
