Winona Ryder recalls ugly Mel Gibson incident


While doing press for her role in "Black Swan," Winona Ryder unexpectedly veered into Mel Gibson territory, recalling an encounter she had with him many years ago.

"I remember, like, 15 years ago, I was at one of those big Hollywood parties. And he was really drunk. I was with my friend, who's gay. (Mel Gibson) made a really horrible gay joke," Ryder tells GQ in its new issue. "And somehow it came up that I was Jewish. He said something about 'oven dodgers,' but I didn't get it. I'd never heard that before. It was just this weird, weird moment. I was like, 'He's anti-Semitic and he's homophobic.' No one believed me!"

very sad, bad teachings.

I would guess it is what is loaded in his macro for that label, if he has feelings like that. And what is in someones macro rarely says something about a group of people.

Then again, some people dislike Christians because of what Mel Gibson might have said when drunk, I would guess it is the same thing.

It would not surprise me at all if her story is true. But, it hardly adds anything to the record. I can't help but wonder why she felt compelled to jump onto the "me too" bandwagon at this time. :shrug: (While I am certainly no Gibson fan, I should probably admit to not really being a Ryder fan either, so take that for what it is worth)...

Other than that, the term "oven dodgers" for Jewish people couldn't be more callous. I really am so turned off by him that I can't watch any of his movies. He's a hateful, disgusting human being.

Susanna Kaysen's writing style in "Girl Interrupted" reminds me of Truman Capote's in "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
