The best movie that I've seen in 50 years.

OK. I might be prejudiced because I love westerns and the original movie.

I knew Hailee Steinfeld would be good, but Jeff Bridges was terrific!

I went next door to Borders and bought the soundtrack before coming home.

That was some splendid filmmaking. Better than that?

Every trailer I have seen for the new one has tried meticulously to repeat every shot and word of dialogue of the first.

I am hopeful, but remain skeptical.

9. This isn't the first movie.

It is very different. The story is the same, but from Mattie Ross' perspective, like the book. Some dialog is the same and some is different. The ending is different.

I've never heard of her... Jeff Bridges, on the other hand has quite an accomplished record, including last years Academy Award. :shrug:

5. All the reviews said Steinfeld was great.

Whereas, this was a very different role for Bridges. He has to change his voice for the part and he didn't even look or sound like himself. Matt Damon was very good too. I suppose Josh Brolin was good too, but he didn't have much of a part. Pepper was a dead ringer for Robert Duvall, but with woolly chaps.

6. I saw it Christmas Eve and although it was good it wasn't the best I've seen.

I wasn't really happy with the ending.

One problem we had in the cineplex where we saw it was that they just got an Imax theater that was showing Tron and it was playing on the screen right next to True Grit so there was this constant rumbling like thunder that we were hearing all the time. They did give us tickets for another movie because of that.

7. I haven't seen it yet, but the cast seems made in heaven.

I love Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, & Josh Brolin.

I just know this cast will be a big improvement from the original. The acting back when the first version came out was overstated in some cases & downright incompetent (Glen Campbell).

I'm looking forward to it!

11. It was great but I prefer Kim Darby as Mattie. Hailee was very good but Kim

was something special. She had that undefinable innocence/righteousness/anger that was so genuine.

Hailee is absolutely amazing!

seeing this film. We all loved it. I think Jeff Bridges is a wonderful actor, I almost always enjoy him in his roles. I would have liked it if he had been the only good thing in it. Wonderful film.

16. We saw it last night, it was excellent. I don't often see movies in theaters--hell, I don't

even rent that many. I'm very picky about movies--I think most of them are crap. But I figured a Coen brothers western couldn't miss. I never saw the John Wayne version, really don't want to now. I think it would seem hokey in comparison.

The Coen Brothers have pulled of the rarest of movie feats,They have surpassed the original 1969 version.

I'll just say its a great movie.
The 1969 version is one of my all time top ten cowboy movies of all time.
It made an impact on me that has stayed with me and I suspect 40 years hence I'll say the same about the 2010 version.

Not the best western, films like Butch Cassiday and Unforgiven were far better.
Not even the best Coen Brothers movie.

Hmm having just seen the original on TCM not long ago, I must
admit I am intrigued, especially since Jeff Bridges is one of
those few excellent high profile actors. :)

It's one of the best films of the year for sure. Hailee Steinfeld absolutely amazed me. Her maturity at 13 years of age to take on this complicated role with very tricky dialogue was outstanding. She is tall for her age (5'7") and carries herself well. Remember, Kim Darby was 19 playing the same role. Jeff Bridges gives another memorable performance to go along with Crazy Heart from last year. Matt Damon is a real surprise, giving one of the best performances of his career. I'm a Coen Bros. fan and this is one of their best. Not quite as good as No Country For Old Men but pretty close.

Didn't even know he was in the movie til he showed up on screen.
