Live Action Movie Review - The Fourth Kind

Genre: Alien abduction.

Story: A psychiatrist, who is dealing with the stress of her husband's murder, investigates strange coincidences between some of her patients.

Acting: Average.

Humor: No intentional humor.

Violence: Extremely brief and blurred.

Sex: None.

Overall: The Fourth Kind uses a gimmick which involves splitting the screen in two (shown below) for some parts of the movie. One screen is the actors, and the other screen is the "actual footage" the actors are "reenacting." My wife and I found this annoying at first, but we both got used to it. The movie creators had some good ideas, but I felt they failed to make those ideas as creepy as they should have been. I didn't really care for the movie, but UFO conspiracy fans may really enjoy it.

3. While I agree the film is flawed, I'd not use the word 'gimmick'

for the technique of split screen, which is actually too common a film modality to be called a gimmick, many very great films contain split screen segments. I found the film to be unsettling and entertaining, different from and more creative than the average smaller budget films.
