Rubber
I think this is an actual film and not a joke. All I can think after watching the trailer is... WTF?

Description: When Robert, an inanimate tire, discovers his destructive telepathic powers, he soon sets his sights on a desert town; in particular, a mysterious woman becomes his obsession.

1. It all depends on the how of it.
Tom Robbins novel 'Skinny Legs And All' features several major characters who are inanimate objects. Can o' Beans, Dirty Sock, Spoon, Painted Stick and Conch Shell. They are important elements of the plot. So, there you go. It is in the how, not the what, that the good stuff grows.
