Poll question: M Squad with Lee Marvin or Dragnet with Jack Webb?
Two great old tv "cop" shows. But which is your favorite if you have one?

3. We didn't have colour tv broadcasts until 1967l
years after that was on here in the fifties.

:hi:

Handy tip of the day - aside from putting your hands up to watching something like this the first time around avoid singing the words to any '50s Rock 'n Roll songs.

5. Can't vote; but Dragnet. "I just want the facts, maam."
By the way, so long as ads cover up voting links, I will not donate one cent to DU.

6. The "film noir" quality of M Squad is knocking my socks off
We recently got the dvd's for the series and that aspect of the show pulls me right in. Dragnet feels brighter and more daytime while M Squad has the feeling of being later in the day and seamier with more shadows, wet Chicago streets and really very bad guys.

So I wondered about how people who feel about these two quite different shows.

8. I'm not surprised - I never missed an episode as soon as we got a tv back then
What did surprise me was how much I'm enjoying M Squad. We watched that, too, way back when it first aired on tv. But now with the dvd's I've been setting aside an evening to watch one dvd, they hold about 7 episodes each, and I'm mesmerized.

I always was a fan of Lee Marvin's acting, too. I read that although he was already an established actor when he made the series, M Squad catapulted his career even further.

Thanks for voting!

Another thing I like so much about watching these old shows is to see some of the actors who became famous later on. Angie Dickinson was in an M Squad from 1958.

And yes, Marvin rules.

However, I must confess, I cannot simply hum the theme from 'M Squad' on a whim, but the theme from 'Dragnet' is indelibly imprinted on me brain.
