Possibly the best spy story of all time has been remade and is currently in post production pending release September 2011.

The original BBC series was , 1979 , was over 5 hours long and followed the book faithfully. No idea how much Hollywood will have edited out to condense it. If you can beg , steal or borrow a copy of the BBC series with Alec Guiness as George Smiley then I'd recommend that. Used copies of the DVD are buttons here in the UK but our PAL Region 2 dvds are generally unplayable in the US. Prices on Amazon.com over your side are not funny.

On the bright side some hero looks to have loaded it all onto YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tinker+tailor+soldier+spy+part+1&aq=2&oq=tinker+tailor

Just follow the pattern of part numbers and enjoy !

edit to add - partial cast list of new film : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1340800/

2. Yes, TTSS was superb on all levels..
I had not heard about the remake.. I suspect we will be disappointed. You cannot improve on that wonderful original production.

3. Probably be ok
Gary Oldmam plays Smiley and he can be very dry. I'm sure Tom Hardy will be good as Ricky Tarr - good actor that guy.

The 2011 remake most likely to get completely ef'd up is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo :
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1568346/ I've got all three dvds of the Millenium Trilogy and they are awful if watched with soundtrack dubbed into English but just great as is in Swedish with English subtitles.

6. I have it in my Netflix queue
Should move it to the top I guess.
The cast for the remake looks great. Love Tom Hardy and the Russian actor...
