I have some Suicide Silence, and that's on the soft end of the scale for me. ;)
Oddly enough, despite being into black metal and noise/power electronics, the thing about death/metalcore that bothers me is the vocals. To the average ear some of the stuff I like has way harsher vocals and I love them, but the metalcore vocal style really pulls me out of the music for some reason. I don't know why in light of the dozens of "worse" vocals I can listen to. The music itself is usually pretty damn good.
When it comes to death metal I prefer mine straight up, bands like Autopsy, Nile, and current fave The Monolith Deathcult.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guJBexouZTY&feature=relatedHere's a taste of the extreme vocal stuff I like. Clearly this is crazier than the stuff that bothers me, so I can't figure out why I like it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rymgm3jcuWcI also dig purely insane noise like Merbow and To Live and Shave In L.A., but I won't subject you to that stuff. :)
Always good to have another music fan on DU. :toast:
