2. It's not a prequel. It's another remake.
I saw previews recently in the theater, and was quite unimpressed.

I wish Hollywood would make more original films -- there are a lot of stories and novels in the s-f genre that are just begging to be make into movies, in my opinion. I think the problem is that those who make movies only know movies and rarely read actual novels. Those who make s-f movies are the worst, because they seem to know absolutely nothing about the genre, but do know a lot about making movies. Especially special effects. Sigh. I've been saying this for years.

9. Only in the most technical sense
could it be considered a prequel. Oh, look, these events are twenty minutes earlier than those in the original film. :sarcasm:

But it's the same story, simply told again. And such a shame, because there's a lot of really, really good s-f out there that would make wonderful movies, but Hollywood would rather remake something that (in my opinion) wasn't all that good to begin with, rather than take a chance on something really new.

the carpenter version picked up after the norwegians had already dug the thing up, brought it back to their camp and subsequently been almost destroyed by it. the last two norwegians were killed at the start of the carpenter flick. this seems to be the story of the norwegians experience which is probably identical to the carpenter film. just a gimmick, i think.

btw, the carpenter version was an excellent remake of the original, imo.

5. I agree Ellen
the Carpenter version is one of my all time favorites.

I can almost recite it line by line. LOL.

And every time it comes on I have to watch it :hi:

10. The Thing - Red Band Trailer
http://www.chud.com/67476/one-thing-leads-to-another/

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. Back in the early 80's when my friends and I watched the first remake on bootleg VHS, we dreamed of getting a sequel where the Thing hits civilization. Could have been awesome. Today... A prequel is not a terrible idea but from what I've seen, they have blended prequel and remake far too much.
