The scene with Phil and Luke and the Basketball had me in stitches.

1. Have they figured out how to hold the camera still yet?

Tried to watch it once, but the jerky camera stuff turned me off. Maybe with all their Emmys, someone will lend them enough money to buy a tripod.

2. I think you've missed the idea of the show. It's supposed to be a documentary

about the state of a modern American family.

3. Yeah, I don't watch too many of them, either

Except for Ken Burns, the guy knows how to give the illusion of movement without jiggling a camera.

4. The "jiggling" or use of a hand held camera is to show that the camera is a

character and not an invisible observer. The characters talk to the camera, the camera occasionally influences the characters actions, etc.

Also, it doesn't "jiggle" all the time. When the family is sitting down in an interview setting the camera is still. It's only when a shot calls for movement or several characters are interacting in, say, different corners of a room and both reactions are needed. It's all to give the "illusion" of a documentary film crew.

I simply find it terribly distracting.
