Anyone seen Moneyball with Brad Pitt yet?...

edit for link

Based on a true story, Moneyball is a movie for anybody who has ever dreamed of taking on the system. Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the general manager of the Oakland A's and the guy who assembles the team, who has an epiphany: all of baseball's conventional wisdom is wrong. Forced to reinvent his team on a tight budget, Beane will have to outsmart the richer clubs. The onetime jock teams with Ivy League grad Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) in an unlikely partnership, recruiting bargain players that the scouts call flawed, but all of whom have an ability to get on base, score runs, and win games. It's more than baseball, it's a revolution - one that challenges old school traditions and puts Beane in the crosshairs of those who say he's tearing out the heart and soul of the game.

Since I LOVE Baseball, HATE the A's, LOVE a good "underdog against the machine" story, and have a MAN-CRUSH on Pitt, I'm gonna see it regardless.

Curious as to what others thought before I go though.

8. I know from nothing about baseball and couldn't care less,
but this film is so well-made, I went to it twice. At no time in this movie did I start absent-mindedly groping around for a FastForward button, as happens in nearly all films I see in a theater.

The chemistry between Brad Pitt and Jason Hill is just amazing. The little girl playing the daughter effortlessly steals the ice-cream scene from Pitt.

The perfect casting, shaky close-ups, archival footage, ex-spouse tensions, flashbacks and long shots meld into a movie that's all of a piece, and I'll see it a third time as soon as I can get it from Netflix.

And I have no patience with watching sports, no interest. This is a baseball movie about as much as "Seventh Seal" is a chess movie.

Whoever cut this film together deserves an Oscar, imo.

5. Well done but I didn't think it made its case
The season prior to using the new system the A's made it to the playoffs. The season when the new system is implemented they also get into the playoffs. In both cases they ultimately are eliminated. They have a record streak with the new system but even Billy Beane says that, in the end, it means nothing compared to winning the season. And that's it. To this day they've haven't won in the playoffs. They make the case that Boston instituted the system and went on to win the world series but Boston's payroll still dwarfs the A's.

9. I actually like long movies in the theater. 3 1/2 hrs of a good film on a big screen is heaven...
for me, especially since a long movie almost guarantees there will not be screaming babies, cell-phone junkies, or constant "up-n-downers". If you pay to watch a 200 min movie, you are usually ready to commit to it (or at least give it an honest chance)
