Spielberg grants Harris key 'Lincoln' role

Steven Spielberg has placed another Brit in a key role for the DreamWorks drama "Lincoln," as Jared Harris has been cast as Ulysses S. Grant.

London-born Daniel Day-Lewis is starring as Lincoln, with Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln.

Based on "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin, the "Lincoln" screenplay has been written by Tony Kushner. Kathleen Kennedy and Spielberg are producing.

The film will focus on the political collision of Lincoln and the powerful men of his cabinet on the road to abolition and the end of the Civil War. Grant, who later became the 18th president, was the most successful Union general, starting with victories at Shiloh and Vicksburg.
