File this under unfortunate but not exactly surprising: Following last month's news that alt-rock's first couple, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, decided to separate, Sonic Youth are done for the foreseeable future.
That's the word from guitarist Lee Ranaldo, who told Rolling Stone that the group's recent South American performances were "the last shows for a while," adding, "I guess I'd just leave it at that."
Moore and Gordon shocked the indie-rock world on Oct. 14, when they announced they were splitting up after more than 25 years of marriage. The two co-founded Sonic Youth in the late '70s, forging a musical partnership that would yield more than a dozen highly influential (and highly noisy) albums.
