Advocacy Director, Middle East

Amnesty International seeks candidates for the senior position of Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa. Based in Washington, D.C., this position takes the lead in raising Amnesty International’s human rights concerns with the U.S. Congress and Presidential administration, carries out media relations, and facilitates grassroots pressure with the end of elevating the priority of human rights within U.S. policy in the Middle East and North Africa. The Advocacy Director also works on various thematic human rights issues that are global in scope. The Advocacy Director reports to the Director of Government Relations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements: excellent knowledge of the region and Middle East policy background, experience working with congressional offices and U.S. government officials, experience organizing grassroots members, Master’s degree and regional language skills. Strongly preferred: familiarity with Amnesty International and DC lobbying work.

Online Community Organizer

The Online Community Organizer is responsible for developing and carrying out a plan to recruit, engage, and sustain a rapidly growing community of AIUSA members, activists, supporters, donors, and interested visitors. Responsibilities include: developing the necessary technological infrastructure; designing strategies for increased web site visitation; producing online events that reflect AIUSA’s priorities; creating opportunities for visitors to interact with key staff, volunteers and other visitors; partnering with other web sites and online communities to extend AIUSA’s online presence; develop and carry out an email-based communications plan designed to cultivate members and to increase fundraising and advocacy success; and managing AIUSA’s online help and feedback system.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have BA; direct experience building and managing online communities; knowledge of effective Internet-based tools for fostering visitor interactions and online recruitment; and 5 years experience with Internet communications, public relations, political campaigns, marketing, member, constituent or customer relationship management, or similar discipline. An understanding of Internet technology and familiarity with other online communities required.

Regional Field Director, South

Based in Atlanta the Field Director will manage and coordinate AIUSA membership development and servicing operations for the South, including translating human rights strategies into regional organizing plans, designing annual membership strategies in consultation with volunteer leaders, setting and achieving membership growth and development goals, and supervising a staff of four. Additionally, the Director will collaborate and consult with staff and volunteer leaders to provide quality servicing, support, and technical assistance to human rights activists throughout the region and to conduct planning and evaluation on outreach and organizing efforts. The Director will have primary responsibility for all program administration, including budget monitoring, internal and external reporting and staff supervision and will serve as regional spokesperson throughout the region.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have 5-7 years of progressive experience in social justice or human rights advocacy, as well as experience planning, managing, and evaluating long-term organizing campaigns and conducting trainings; experience supervising staff, planning work and evaluating performance; and successful experience working with youth and people from diverse backgrounds. Spanish-speaking a plus.

Senior Accountant

Based in NY, the Sr. Accountant prepares monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and accounting schedules; prepares monthly general journals and account reconciliation; monitors the allocation of overhead to specific programs and departments; maintains accurate and updated records pertaining to state registrations for solicitation purposes; ensures that all permits are current in the various states in which contributions are being sought by the organization. The Sr. Accountant also works with the Director of Finance on the preparation, planning and oversight of the entire budget process for AIUSA.
