I cannot believe what I just heard.

My 70+ mother has been working data entry for a "Bible" church for almost 10 years.

She says she got "fired". It is awful.

She got walked out. I'm in basic shock.

edit: They wanted her to sign a statment which goes way beyond her beliefs.

More later. This is not right.

1. It will be interesting to see what this "statement" says...
It's a terrible shame that she's being punished in this way.

4. Not too long ago a Church fired a octagenarian teacher
After the Minister remembered that the bible said that women are not supposed to teach men.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Please let us know that details.

sorry I was in just shock. I'll get the details and post. She was pretty upset too.
Me too. A dear family friend from way back works at a high level in this church.
Someone I lived with when I was a teenager. Someone we took care of her two sons... they were like brothers to me .... I donno what went wrong. I will let you know.

The OP states 10 years. I wanted to correct that. It has been since my dad's passing.
1998 . so not quite 10 years.

6. More info
The papers (7-8 pages) said the church is going in a new direction.
They offered her 6 weeks severance pay, but without seeing them, I assume that is to avoid her filing unemployment, which she can do. She did nothing wrong. Even in the po-dunk state of Texas, you can get unemployment if someone puts you out of a job for no reason.

She can draw unemployment for 26 weeks .. I think.

So I think these papers are a way for them to avoid being reported as laying people off.
She has seven days to reply. I don't think she will sign.

It really make me sick. My mother is over 70. She showed up for work EVERY DAY, rain, sleet, sunshine. I'm not saying she's perfect. But she went to work!

I smell elder discrimination.

This will die down. I went to that church once. It is HUGE.

I just don't know why they couldn't let my mom sit there and type their stuff.
Seems like a good way to go if you are a Christian.
