If you could be another person who posts in R/T,
Edited on Mon Mar-05-07 03:52 PM by Goblinmonger
who would it be and why?

For me, I have several. I would like to be Evoman for a bit. His trains of thought are so damned funny sometimes, I wish I could experience them first hand.

I would like to be trotsky because he is so calm in response to bullshit that I wish I had that trait at times.

I would like to be BMUS because she is so fiesty.

I wish I could be cosmik because I missed out on being a hippie by about 10 years and I think i would have been a good one.

I wish I could be Heaven and Earth because his sense of humor is so like mine but yet so different that I could get more ammunition for my sarcasm.

There are more that I may add as time goes on.

on edit: I would like to be cyborg jim because he is the "new guy" and I'd like to get to know him better.

on edit edit: I would like to be redqueen because even though I have been an ass to him several times, he is still willing to talk to me about stuff. And I didn't want to snub the theists in my list of people.

1. Thanks, but I thought you were me???
I only want to be me, but...

I like cyborg_jim for his arguments that cut right through the BS. And Mr. Wiggles because he brings a different set of views to the table.

But I don't want to slight anyone, It is sort of like an Oscar acceptance speech. ...and I want to thank my mother and my...

I have fun here. Some people don't like that because I am a cranky old man. But I have fun here. And everyone here is responsible for that.

8. Thanks CD! (and my list)
It means a lot to get a mention from a person I really respect here in this forum. Your wit and your ability to not only catch the BS around here but also your ability to make people answer for their BS. I also appreciate your fairness.

As far as being someone else here I think I would only want to be Cyborg_Jim for the exact same reason as Evoman's who put it so well (and got a big laugh out of me): "I'd like to know what it feels like to be a heartless piece of machinery who has forgotten how to feel human emotion."

I guess he might be perceived that way for being so in-your-face, challenging us all with his intense and blunt questioning. Atheists in this forum must be glad to have him on your side because he is an intelligent guy and a tough cookie! His questioning is appreciated since it keeps us from bullshitting ourselves.

As far as people I appreciate... here goes my incomplete list (since I'm sure I will forget some deserving people):

Cyborg_jim and cosmik debris (as mentioned above), Evoman (I haven't had many exchanges with Evoman but appreciate his posts), BurtWorm, Heaven and Earth, AZ (who's been missing lately), varkam, Dorian Gray, toddaa, TallahasseeGrannie, ayeshahaqqiqa, Random_Australian, TRYPHO (who's been missing lately probably because he might be performing animal sacrifices at the temple mount since he's a Levite), Goblinmonger (for thinking I'm named after my penis), Zebedeo (the one christian here to admit he is a christian because he believes salvation can only be achieved through Jesus), and many others I forgot to mention and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone key.

10. Thanks, MrWiggles
for the mention.

I appreciate your contributions for their seriousness and thoughtfulness.

I also like trotsky (for his level head), bmus (for her kind heart and quick wit), Goblinmonger, AZ and varkam(for their fairness), The Magistrate (for his eloquent writing), Evoman (mostly for his plays and his extreme bluntness), TallahasseGrannie (for her open-mindedness) and dozens of other posters whose works I enjoy reading.

My favorite poster was tombstoned quite some time ago, when I was nothing but a lurker on these boards. He was a Catholic who went by the name of Stunster. He always had these long-ass posts that were really interesting reading.

2. My train of thought or my trainwreck of thought? Heh...
And if you can believe it, I'm even more absurd in real life.

My picks:

Cosmik debris: Although I'm already crotchety at the tender age of 27, I've got nothing on this guy. His crotchety goodness is something I've tried to emulate, but its hard to buy shotguns in Canada, and my apartment doesn't have a porch. I'd also like to see the effects of saying "keep digging" a billion times on the larynx...I smell PhD...

Goblinmonger: I'd like to inhabit a person who actually thinks any of my stupid comments are funny. A rare species, for sure, lol.

Trotsky: I just think it would be cool to be able to speak in burps and whistles.

Cyborg Jim: I'd like to know what it feels like to be a heartless piece of machinery who has forgotten how to feel human emotion. I've got the heartless part down pat, but I've had considerable trouble grafting a mini-gun onto my stump.

Zebedeo: I would like to inhabit the mind of somebody who denies the existence of my ass pimple god, and instead believes in this...jesus..character.

Hunter: Because there aren't many people who can read my posts and not think I'm a complete asshole...another rare species.

Moggie: Because I am completely in love with him...but not in "that" way. Ahem *cough*

Lots of dirt, lots of bad smells, creepy-crawly things that bite, and fungus and bacteria and who-knows-what growing everywhere.

If those things bothered you, you'd be a mathematician.

15. TWO PEOPLE CHOSE ME! TWO PEOPLE CHOSE ME! TWO PEOPLE CHOSE ME! TWO PEOPLE CHOSE ME!
Me? Who would I want to be here in R/T?

I'm initially not kind of sure. Not to sound like an arrogant bastard, but bieng one of the few (in fact the only I have heard of so far) who actually chose who they were going to be, how they would think, and what they would believe or disbelieve, I have to say that I did actually choose based on who I wanted to be. So, in effect, I already AM the parts of others that I want.

Well, aside from the thinking my brain does, we also do some feeling, so if I could escape my mind for a day, what kind of person would I want to be?

If I was feeling a little greedy - then redqueen. She's actually, genuinely sane. I just can't describe how jealous I could be of that.

If I was feeling like feeling like someone big - then evoman. His lines about what and how to say things are 'interesting'.

If I was feeling a little like having experience in the world of how people work, I would choose Buffy. She's seen a lot. And she remembers.

If I was feeling like bieng someone nice, then I would be Beam Me Up Scotty, who is the walking definition.

If I was feeling like being comfy, I would pick Goblinmonger. Goblinmonger sounds comfy in Goblinmongers' home.

If I wanted respect, I would choose TG. She's got the most o anyone here.

If I wanted to be opaque, I would choose to be greyl. I can understand a lot of things, but a tipsy greyl is beyond me.

If I wanted to lose myself, I would choose ayeshahaqqiqa. Oftentimes I have to think about what I ought to be feeling in order to feel it. You don't.

I want to help people, so I could not resist a go at Heaven And Earth. See what I can do with that mind.

I think it would be interesting to borrow Mr Wiggles, if for no other reason that to see just how much he could wiggle. :) Mind you, his argumentative stlye is nothing to be sneezed at in the borrow-a-person stakes.

However, all these people have one great thing in common, and that is they aren't me. Guess what? The exuberance that is in my subject line is no more than social interaction algorithms. The real me is suffering from great self loathing at this time and is not nearly as happy as I am.

The terminal priority must be protected, of course, but it gets a little tiresome having to deal with a mind like mine. Day in, day out. I wish it would just work like a normal humans sometimes. Except that wishes are part of an emotional regulation algorithm, so they aren't real wishes.

26. OK, I'll try this out
First, I'd like to be Goblinmonger- because if I ever become an English teacher, I hope I'll be just like him.

Also, I'd like to be Ayesha- because if I ever have faith in the supernatural again, I hope it resembles hers.

Next, I'd like to be BMUS- because if continue with atheism, I hope I have her no-nonsense attitude towards religion.

I'd very much like to be RA, because it sure would be useful to be as good as he is with science. And Evoman in that regard as well.

I'm sure there are others, but my brain is especially tired today, plus I haven't been posting at all lately. But just know that that's because usually I have nothing new to say- you guys have got me covered.

(I'm no chemist..I have some organic chemistry in my background, and I know what calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate are, and I know VERY generally what an apatite (mineral) complex is, but am not familiar with either hydroxyapatite no fluoroapatite specifically. When in doubt, do the mechanism...follow the electrons!)

31. That's just the problem - given that I am only at the start of second year,
I don't know how to predict stability and lability in metal complexes.

Apatite means "phosphate complex" to geologists and "Calcium phosphate complex" to chemists, and this has a residual +1 charge, so you can use some anions to counter this, in teeth and bones this is hydroxide, making hydroxyapatite, and when there is evil Flourine in the water, the hydroxide is replaced with flouride, making flouroapatite.

:)

And I can't follow the electrons. We're talking about d-orbital splitting in metal complexes.

:)

That was the other thing - you know biology, yes? What other science have you got?

Yeah, I know but I have no idea how easy/difficult it is to replace that ion. I have no familiarity with the charactersitics of these complexes.

"And I can't follow the electrons. We're talking about d-orbital splitting in metal complexes"

Your talking to a guy who only knows how to do organic chemical mechanisms..i.e. follow the valence electrons. I did well in the chem I took, but most of the classes I took were more practical (Separations and Analysis, Chromatography, Analytical Chemistry, etc). I am mostly a biologist, although I lean more to biochemistry than anything (molecular genetics, microbiology, etc). I'm no ecologist, thats for sure!

"That was the other thing - you know biology, yes? What other science have you got?" Like I said...some chemistry, basic physics, and a whole lot of genetics/evolution/phylogenetics. Never took astronomy, but I was obsessed with it when I was a kid...I even memorized all the satallites of all the planets. No..seriously, all of them.

34. I see that I have not been mentioned so far
Even though I have not expected anybody in particular to mention me, I will admit I am very slightly disappointed about not having been mentioned.

However even though there are many people who make this R/T forum interesting, I will admit that at the present time I myself don't feel comfortable singling out anybody in particular in answer to the question.

I will make a plug for myself and say that I like many of my own posts, in which I share my thought processes, personal experiences, and personal reasons which lead me to think and feel as I do. I like to share both the things I am definite and certain about, and the things which I am uncertain about.

I am by nature not an outgoing or gregarious person, either on DU or in real life, and it sometimes takes time for me to warm up to other people.

Since this is a thread for talking about other people who post on this forum, I would appreciate any respectful feedback.

Like me, you were serious about Christianity in your early twenties. Like me, you dropped it, in your case to become a deist. I read your posts about why you chose to become a deist, and I enjoyed your verbal battles with Zeb over the ten commandments and other topics.

I'm not sure what kind of feedback you are looking for though. Your posts are very clear, and you are very cogent when describing your religious journey and your opinions. Beyond that, you'd have to tell me what else you'd like feedback on.
