Man, 75, killed for refusing to buy religious CDs, cops say

MOUNT LAUREL — A man fatally beat a former Soviet political prisoner at a highway rest stop Thursday after the victim declined an offer to buy his religious CDs, police said.

Brian K. White, 26, of Humble, Texas, was charged with murder, eluding police and weapons offenses.

Authorities said White stopped at the James Fenimore Cooper service area of the New Jersey Turnpike and approached Michail J. Makarenko, 75, who was traveling from his home in Hillsboro, Va., to New York to see friends, and asked him if he wanted to buy religious CDs.

When the man declined, authorities said witnesses told them, White picked up a rock and started striking the man in the head before getting back in his Chevrolet Camaro and heading north.

He was just trying to hock some cheap bootleg CDs and got pissed off because the guy wouldn't buy his crap. He saw the elderly man was vulnerable and he took advantage of him. Even though his reaction was extreme, there are some people who get terrible agitated and violent when they are brushed off. Pair that with a lack of impulse control and there you go.
