"Bless me father for I have sinned. This is my first confession. I stole a dime and two nickels...
My first confession was a lie!
Raised catholic.
Whispering to "Joe" while standing in line waiting to make my first confession:
Joe: What are you going to tell him?
Me: I don't know. What are you going to say?
Joe: I'm gonna tell him I stole two dimes from my dad.
Me: I'm gonna tell him that, too.
Joe: You can't tell him that! He'll think we cheated.
Me: What should I say?
Joe: You tell him that you stole a dime and two nickels.
When my turn comes I whisper to the priest who appears thoughtful and pensive.
"Bless me father for I have sinned. This is my first confession. I stole a dime and two nickels......"

1. OMG, that sure brings
back memories. Trying to make up sins. Oh, what innocence.

4. I was whacked on my can 25 times. I sobbed for almost an hour.
It took a long time as an adult to understand that I was not a bad boy, that the church was bad. The boogey-man promoters were bad.

3. So...
...is a lie really a lie when you're just lying in confession because you have to say something to the priest so that he can keep his job? Actually, that was very kind and thoughtful of you and your friend. You sacrificed your previously unsullied records for the greater good.

- Or the greater bad, depending upon how you look at it, I guess.

5. We didn't do it to help the priest keep his job.
We probably did it to avoid the emotional abuse that came with them telling us that we were bad.
