'Winter solstice' sign brings hundreds of protesters to Capitol

Several hundred people rallied Sunday at the state Capitol to protest a holiday display inside that provoked a national outcry by disparaging religion and declaring there is no God.

The "winter solstice" sign sponsored by the atheistic Freedom from Religion Foundation calls religion "myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."

An organizer at Sunday's rally, Steve Wilson, said outrage over the display was growing, and that it was offensive to people of all faiths.

"When it comes to disparaging my faith on public property, that's where I draw the line," Wilson said.

Wilson seems like your typical Christian ignoramous, in that he is ignorant (or oblivious or just plain does not care) how often the beliefs of atheists and anyone else who does not subscribe to his brand of snake oil are disparaged not only in public -- street corner preachers, televangelists using public airwaves -- but from court rooms, legislative chambers and the offices of government executives.

I am agnostic, have always been, and have always recognized that my 'belief' is unorganized and unusual; I assume all the 'risks' inherent in that fact.

I speak of two mutually exclusive groups: those who believe in and accept Wilson's religion, and those who do not. I put atheists into the second group. Was I incorrect in doing so?
