a big sci-fi fan: I used to read it avidly and encountered Fahrenheit 451 and Canticle for Leibowitz as short stories in the pulps before they were reworked into books

Later, I became interested in environmental activism. One of the most common things I've heard over the years is -- we don't need to worry about this planet, because when it's trashed we'll just find another one to live on

I've heard such idiocy for decades and from people all over this country

Sci-fi is fun but lots of folk seem to take it way too seriously
