Need help identifying a particular religion/denomination
I'm trying to figure out which denomination a Japanese friend of mine learned about on a trip to Canada recently.

She thinks it's some form of Protestant, they held bible study on Wednesday nights and Sundays but had no actual "church" to go to (they met at various congregation members' homes), they had only the Bible and no other sort of texts, and here's the weird part...the ministers weren't allowed to own their own homes but instead lived with their congregation in their homes (I gather they moved around a lot). Also, the ministers always worked in pairs.

Oh, and they're located in rural Western Canada, about an hour from Vancouver if that helps.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

1. It sounds like the group that converted Stupid
from hard drinking to Jebus.

2. Sounds like some obscure kind of sect.
There's no telling what they call themselves.

4. Might be a local thing
It's nothing that I've ever heard of.

5. Can't tell much from that description, but there were Methodist...
itinerant preachers in the late 19th Century doing just that around the country where there were no churches built. Probably other sects had them, too, and there were all those tent revivals where the preacher needed some place to stay.

I've heard there are still these "missionaries" running around North America, but I don't know which, if any, churches they are part of.
