United Church of Christ Backs Gay Marriage
I dont know much about the United Church of Christ sect but here you go.

"ATLANTA -- With a possible historic vote looming on a measure supporting same-sex marriage, the head of the United Church of Christ on Tuesday publicly endorsed the resolution for the first time.

The Rev. John H. Thomas said Tuesday that the church's General Synod "should affirm the rights of gay, lesbian and transgender persons" to have marriages "equal in name, privileges and responsibilities to married heterosexual couples."

"I believe our local churches, as they are able, should move toward the development of marriage equality policies," Thomas added during a speech at Emory University.

That remark drew a lengthy standing ovation from the audience of about 200. "

1. They're also down for that Media and Democracy project that
delivered a Bill of Media Rights recently that includes broadband Internet Access as a right.

2. I am a UCC member...
this is a very welcoming and affirming Christian denomination, but there are two important points to be made that the headline misses.

First, that is one of the proposals on the table at the synod next week. That Thomas has endorsed it is a good thing, but not final or binding.
In fact, there is another measure that calls for "One Man/One Woman" marriage recognition.

Second, each congregation is free to set it's own agenda. Most locals follow the National lead, but are free (and encouraged) to let their hearts and minds take them where they think is right.

There will be heated discussion next week. And a lot will spill out into the media. But regardless of the way it goes, we will not end up like the Episcopal church over these issues.

All that said, this is a great Christian place...if you have outgrown your church, I heartily recommend that you stop by.

5. UCC
Is it liberal in religion and politics or just religion? I'm a UU so I could see some common ground in the liberal religion thing but is there a set way the Bible is to be understood? What is the view of non-Christians and the separation of church and state?

3. I've been going to a UCC church.
I love how liberal it is. :-) It's nice to have some denomination to counteract the fundamentalist nutcase churches.

4. This Is Great News...
... why cannot more Xians, Xian leaders and Xian churches be accepting and fair-minded like Rev. Thomas? Why do so many Xians hate so much? What's up with THAT?
