BELLEVUE - Conflicting views of homosexuality continue to clash in the community.

A conference called "Love Welcomes All" presents what organizers call "the other side," making the case for tolerance and God's acceptance of the homosexual community.

"You can be a person of faith and embrace your God-given orientation," said Cheri Briar of Evangelicals Concerned Western Region. "There does not need to be a disconnect between those two parts." <snip>

1. Ultimately I see no difference between the Christofascist...

...message ("homosexuals have chosen to be flagrant sinners") and the "compassionate" message of other brands of Christianity ("homosexuals are not sinners as long as they choose to resist the temptations of their Yehveh-given sexuality"). Both messages demand an artificial suppression of selfhood's most basic component: sexual identity. The cited incident of the lesbian who killed herself because of ultimate conflicts with Christian doctrine is thus tragically typical -- a genuinely horrific struggle the invariably ugly consequences of which I have witnessed within my own immediate family.
