Another Irish Catholic Bishop Quits, Someone Please Open The Windows.....
Second bishop resigns over Irish abuse inquiry

The Independent
By Colm Kelpie and Sarah Stack, Press Association
Wednesday, 23 December 2009

A second Irish bishop dramatically resigned today over the damning findings of a state clerical child abuse inquiry. Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin James Moriarty faced mounting pressure to quit after Limerick Bishop Donal Murray stepped aside six days ago over his "inexcusable" mishandling of an abuse case.

Despite previously insisting he should not resign, Bishop Moriarty said he accepted the inquiry's findings and that he should have challenged Church handling of paedophilia. "I know that any action now on my part does not take away the suffering that people have endured," he said. "I again apologise to all the survivors and their families.

"I have today offered my resignation as Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin to the Holy Father. I hope it honours the truth that the survivors have so bravely uncovered and opens the way to a better future for all concerned." Bishop Moriarty served as an auxiliary bishop in the Dublin Archdiocese between 1991 and 2002.

The inquiry, based on a sample 46 priests, revealed a catalogue of paedophilia and subsequent cover-ups over three decades because the Catholic hierarchy, obsessed with secrecy, was granted police immunity.

- If you or I had knowledge of assault and battery and sexual assaults being committed against innocent children -- and not just committed, but perpetrated over and over again with openness and impunity and even with the knowledge, winks and nods of the police. After having been beaten to within an inch of our lives for "resisting arrest" and after numerous "accidental falls" down several flights of stairways -- then and only then would we get the opportunity to explain ourselves to a judge and a jury of our peers over why we should be forgiven and not punished -- right before we're found GUILTY and carted-off to prison.

But these Holy Assholes are allowed to claim that they knew not that the beating and raping of children was even a crime. Then quit. And then retire in splendor and live off "donations and offerings" of their enablers. I'm sure the government authorities who also knew of this, yet another shameful chapter and episode in the Catholic Crime Diaries, and will do no less better than the Bishops have here and be allowed to retire on the public dole.

Jesus wept. And now you see why........

1. Watch out! They may smite you with the new blasphemy law!
Especially your kittie!

It is a nightmare that these poor people are so indoctrinated in their "beliefs" that they continue to support and follow their monstrous leaders. And worst of all...sending their children to these rapists and murderers.

4. It is so important to the Catholic Church to promote priests being better than normal humans
that they are willing to sacrifice children rather than to say that priests are human. But what is worse are the followers that are willing to sacrifice their children to be a part of the religion.

I might be able to understand wanting to believe in Jesus but why oh why believe in a church that has never followed the teachings of Jesus? Power, wealth, corruption and child abuse. How can anyone today be a Catholic?

5. I agree. It's so odd. If you ask them they talk about all the good they do...
they go on about the members being different from the abuser leaders but they continue to send money to them and they stay members. Weird.

11. They could do good without any church.....
...probably a whole lot more GOOD. But they have been trained to only do "good works" if they can build-up their brownie points with this one particular bookie named Jesus (AKA: Yahweh The Constantly Pissed-Off Desert Storm Deity). So they won't play the game of life anywhere else, nor under any other circumstances unless it under their own game rules.

- Because they need those brownie point trading stamps for later -- on Judgment Day. See? It all makes sense. Right?

13. I agree with you, I have no problem with people belonging to a church per se
any more than if they belong to the Elks or Eagles, but why choose (or remain with a church that is sooo non-Jesus).

14. But that's the beauty of it all.....
...because the priesthood is never held to account. By anyone but themselves. And they (believers) have gotten themselves caught into this ridiculous and mindless loop of behavior and thinking, and they don't know how to get themselves out of it without seemingly abandoning their Jesus.

- I think Pat Condell here says it best:

Although I'm an atheist and a secularist, and just about as anti-religion as it is possible be. I have no problem with anyone believing in god, if that's how they want to live their lives. In fact, I think for some people believing in a false god, (and this one is false, because they all are), can be quite therapeutic in much the same way that artificial daylight can help with the winter blues.

But personal faith and public religion are two completely different things.

When religion goes public it stops being spiritual and it becomes political. Usually running on the "Moral-hypocrisy Ticket." And because it claims divine authority, demanding unconditional submission and obedience from outside the bounds of reason, it despises democracy as much as it despises women and homosexuals. So quite a lot then.

And therefore it is always working toward theocracy. Toward strengthening the power and status of clergy. Public religion exists for the sole benefit of the clergy. And clergy exists for the sole benefit of clergy. And this is a pivotal point to understand.

Personal faith, spirituality, whatever you want to call it, doesn’t need to be administered and policed by a privileged class of clerical fascists. Whereas public religion not only depends upon clergy, they depend upon it. Neither can exist without the other. And neither is "actually" necessary.

And they know this of course. Which is why their proxy-religion is all about guilt and submission and obedience. Not enlightenment. Are you kidding? That's the last thing they want. Because "enlightened people" don't need clergy.

Why do you think the Pope tells Catholics obedience to the doctrine of The Church is the foundation of your faith? Not the "Sermon On The Mount," not "loving your neighbor," obedience is your foundation.

Of course it is. It has to be. Because the alternative is for you to look into your own heart, and that's the last place these parasites want you looking. Because that's where the bullshit detector is.

10. You can chalk it all up to the Mysterious Ways Clause.....

For some boneheaded reason these religionists seem to think that their god will absolve them later when they're judged for these stupid decisions, or lack thereof. They seem to believe that their "errors in judgment" by continually sending their young and innocent charges into the maw of this Pedo-monster institution won't be held against them because "they were only following orders." The Nuremberg Defense. And we see how well that one worked out.

But this particular strain of religionists, the Christians, well they ain't too choosy about rationales and alibis, as anyone can plainly see. Since they make-it-all-up as they go anyhoo, the MWC simply has to be malleable and flexible enough fit comfortably between reality and their consciences. That way there's no conscious-leakage, no upset and no rash. And they can continue through life, Zombie-like, no matter how much Cognitive Dissonance they encounter, they're good to go! And the Pimpster, for entirely different reasons that have nothing to do with his peons, has given them the leeway after a fashion. By claiming his dumbass can't make any mistakes.

- It's the sort of circular thinking that one has to become accustomed to when dealing with people who have these kinds of religious mental disorders.

15. It is an power trip in the clergy
Back before Vatican II, clericalism ran rampant. From the 60's to the 80's there was an downplaying of the role of the clergy towards the laity. Now there is an crackdown on the laity and that the clergy above everyone else with creeping infallibility at lower and lower levels. The current JPII clergy generation looked at the past, got greedy and took the power to themselves and we are now in this mess.

8. My catholic friends are oblivious to the evil that has been done by their church leaders.
They refuse to admit that it's a cancer. The indoctrination is so strong it's almost unbelievable. These are strong, intelligent, well-educated women I'm talking about.

They value the social support and the feeling that they are part of something old and mysterious. I just don't get it.

12. While I often josh and joke about all this....
...I do so in an attempt to retain my equanimity as best I can. My sarcasm is my safety valve. Because I must imagine that the degree of denial these people must live in is enormous and often overwhelming. For those who still have consciences that is. The rest have probably just gone numb. And yet I can see why it's helpful to try to obscure the truth. Or to try and "accentuate the positive" as the songs goes. But when the verse is over and the last tone has died away, you have to face these demons. These liars. These pedos. But they can't.

They're too weak-minded and weak-of-soul to do anything for themselves, or for others. These are a people who have been whipped into obeisance from centuries past. From the beginning, really. And The Church still plays upon every emotion, every family tie and every FEAR to keep them in-line. So much so, that most of them have no will of their own anymore. No will but to continue to serve these devils in their pure white collars.

From the beginning and throughout its history, The Church has been about one thing: POWER. That is all they ever wanted, and it is what their adherents help them to sustain. With their service, with their money and with their presence. They have so much power over The Church and yet in their weakness of mind (which they are admonished not to over-use -- because Father knows best), they don't even realize it. They don't think. They just do as they're told and no more. And in so doing, they continue to give these monsters life-destroying power. Power over other people's lives. People that The Church cares nothing about, or they would at least stop fucking their children. But these automatons just continue on -- earning their points in the name of their god. Which they think makes it all right.

- And that is why I realize that such people are so dangerous. All enablers are dangerous because they justify the things that their monsters do.....
