Lately, Malaysia has had many wacky incidents regarding its laws that enforce religious law for religious believers.
- In September 2009, the government
lifted a ban on Muslims attending a Black Eyed Peas concert. Originally, the ban was because...a beer company sponsored the concert!
- Earlier this week, Malaysian morality police
arrested 52 unmarried Muslim couples for violating the Sharia provision that unmarried couples not be together in a secluded space.
And now, the BBC
reports that three churches in Kuala Lumpur have been firebombed ahead of planned demonstrations by Muslim groups. Those groups dislike a recent Malaysian court decision that allows non-Muslims to refer to God as "Allah". Although Islamic political party PAS tolerates other religions using Allah, as do some other orgs, others like the Muslim Youth Movement object.
Because the government appealed, the Malaysia High Court is
suspending the Allah ruling.
