African Churches May Refuse UCC Cash After Gay Marriage Vote

Kenya's National Council of Churches is considering severing ties with the United Church of Christ following the American church's decision to support same-sex unions.

The General Synod of the UCC voted earlier this month in Atlanta to endorse same-sex marriage, making it the largest Christian denomination in the country to do so. (story)

The 1.3 million-member church is a major supporter of the National Council of Churches in Kenya, but some NCC member churches are demanding that the organization sever all ties with the United Church of Christ according to the Nairobi Standard newspaper.

Bigots come in every variety and nationality.

They are free to cut off their own face to spite their nose if that's what they want. I suppose in their little minds gay people somehow exist independent of the rest of society, and so it's safe to single them out as a target for hatred and violence. That may be true on a continent with an extraordinary legacy of extraordinary violence, but they have no moral lessons to teach us in this regard.
