and the rest of that ilk aren't practicing religion in any meaningful sense of the word. And they have no faith. They can call it Christianity all they want, but it's really just a power grab through an expansion of cultural market share.

Bob Jones University, Patrick Henry College, Liberty University and the rest of that crowd are a carbuncle on the ass of humanity and the sooner they are exposed for the money grubbing shysters they are the better off we will all be.

There are plenty of fine upstanding Christians (and Muslims and Buddhists and New Agers etc.) in the world, but their faith is being appropriated by crooks and giving them a huge black eye in the process.

For every Barak Obama those assholes are training about a hundred Michele Bachmanns (an alum of Oral Roberts University). Religious fundamentalists are the scariest and probably the most dangerous people on the planet.

People are free to believe anything they want. In fact, faith is a fundamental component of the human condition. The shared experience of faith, otherwise known as religion, is a fundamental element of a stable society. Religion is certainly not the source of a revenue stream or a path to political power.

I should clarify. I don't hate Christians. I was raised Southern Baptist (although I'm a raging iconoclast now) and my brother was a missionary for many years. He's one of the finest men I have ever known. I don't consider the people to whom I was referring Christians no matter what they may call themselves. As far as I'm concerned, they're just money grubbing assholes. Anybody willing to profit from the faith of others isn't practicing religion.

I don't dislike anybody because of their faith. I don't even dislike them because of a disingenuous profession of faith. I dislike profit from faith. I dislike the use of faith to exercise power for profit. I dislike liars.

Of course, I suppose there was a broad brush in my initial response in a way. If I were a Christian I wouldn't claim those creationists nor would I defend them. If the practice of Christianity were all that beneficial to humanity, why are not the adherents to that faith unable to police their own ranks? Some of the most egregious offenses against humanity have been perpetrated in the name of Christ.

Christianity gets a pass from me, as if it needed it, because it developed in tandem with the explosion of resources that prompted the development of civilization. I don't think any system of faith would have been immune to that influence. Time will tell how it will fare when the contraction of resources comes.
