7. Now there's a good idea. They don't know anything about the orgins of
Christianity I bet. They misuse the bible to justify their hatred.

funny thing is I didn't really provoke them. Just left a live and let live kinda message. But they can't even take that.

11. Yes I give you a lot of credit. You have been very patient. Now tell
me...where was Jesus an asshole in the bible? Unless I missed something big I'd have to say you seem to have the accurate grasp of Jesus' teachings.

13. He actually is credited with some very harsh statements, like the bit abou
even looking at a woman is committing adultery. But what I think is that He is right, but not in that He is trying to scare us all that we are going to Hell for looking at other people.

Rather I think it makes some sense for people in relationships to nurture their relationships. If your eye starts wandering in a major way (and I don't mean an appreciative glance but a How can I get with him/her) it's a red flag.

But, that's just me and my liberal interpretation of it all. I am sure being married and formerly bad about wandering (before we were married) has a lot to do with that personal interpretation.

14. Yeah and the whole bible is pretty open to interpretation and rewrites to
support positions. People need to realize that if they want to follow their interpretation of it fine. Don't interpret God for me though. There isn't much difference between extremeists in any religion.

16. Yep I believe in biblical inspiration not inerrancy. I think that there
were plenty of Dobsons, Robertsons, and Falwells of the day writing, organizing, and interpreting the Book all through the ages. But then I really do believe in Free Will. Not Free Will except for when the Bible was dictated by God to humans.

21. Exactly for instance
I think that Jonah and the whale was a Metaphor for depression and not being swallowed by a mythic beast. Not everything is at face value. I also believe that when Jesus used the word scribe he was alluding toward this as well and not saying just the keepers of the law.

30. Here is what Jesus probably looked like
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 10:04 AM by IanDB1

Yeshua of Nazareth:
What did he look like?

In recent portrayals by Caucasian Christian artists, Yeshua ben Nazereth (a.k.a. Jesus Christ) has typically been shown with a light skin, a long "Presbyterian" nose, very long hair, and a height probably in excess of six feet. The face of Jim Caviezel, who plays Jesus in the movie "The Passion of the Christ," is similar to many modern-day images of Jesus. He is shown in the right picture above. Carlos F. Cardoza-Orlandi, associate professor of world Christianity at Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, GA, commented: "While Western imagery is dominant, in other parts of the world he is often shown as black, Arab or Hispanic." 3 However, these have been based on pure speculation by the artists.

And here is what Jesus smelled like:

Jesus scented candles

An American couple have created a scented candle based on biblical accounts of what Jesus smells like.

Bob and Karen Tosterud, from South Dakota, were inspired by a verse that says when Jesus returns to Earth his robes will perfumed with myrrh, aloe and cassia.

Karen sourced the fragrances on the internet and had a family friend manufacture the 'His Essence' candle, reports WCCO TV.

yet to see it hanging in a church. Just a blue-eyed, tawny haired guy. (Although a lot of the churches I attended as a kid wouldn't allow portraits of Jesus. Blasphemy, ya know.)

10. Why do some Christians act like they hang out w/God
personally? Or like they were friends with Jesus, and they know EXACTLY what his will is, what he hates, etc.

And why do so many of them seem to need to twist the intentions of biblical text to make them hateful, vengeful, wrathful, etc.? It's very disturbing...

Just cracked me up, your post on that board. It's so funny to me the way they immediately label a dissenting view as 'liberal christian'--I guess they don't get that Jesus was a liberal.

Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 06:33 PM by hlthe2b
They are in no means true Christians and to refer to them as such does tremendous disservice to millions of people who at least try to adhere to the teachings of Christ.

I know this is the point of your post.... The use of quotations (or referring them as "XIANS" would make it so much more clear--and avoid misunderstandings I think)

That person may not think so, but I think you did an excellent job of teaching and rebuking immorality. (The immorality of persecuting in God's name, while ignoring the poor and the suffering, all of which has to make God furious.)
