Benedict warns of anti-Semitism
Pope visits synagogue of Germany's oldest Jewish community

(CNN) -- Pope Benedict XVI, visiting a synagogue in Germany, has warned of a rising wave of anti-Semitism.

"Today, sadly, we are witnessing the rise of new signs of anti-Semitism and various forms of a general hostility toward foreigners," the pope told members of Germany's oldest Jewish community Friday.

In his remarks at Roonstrasse Synagogue, Benedict said he would seek to foster relations with the Jewish world, continuing strides made by his predecessor Pope John Paul II.

....

Benedict said the killings were spurred by a "crazy, insane racial ideology which set out for the systematic destruction of European Jewry, including Jews from Cologne in "what is now know as the Shoah."

2. Crazy? Insane?
Let's see...who came up with the idea of shoving Jews into filthy ghettos and not allowing them basic necessities of life?

And where were Jews first forced to wear a yellow star?

Why, in the Papal States for several hundred years!

Another testimony to the infinite human capacity for selective forgetfulness and willing gullibility.

The Oranges took over the Vatican, that's what happened. They installed a Pope of their own. The monarchs appropriated the church for years.

Keep posting this stuff, and I'll keep posting the truth you don't want to hear.

Don't like it? Don't keep posting denials. We're getting into an area where I'm not sure you want to go.

"Selective forgetfulness and willing gullibility" is yet another projection.

9. The truth I don't want to hear? Got much egomania working there?
Hey bud, I'm an atheist. I don't give a flying fuck what kind of weird and wonderful Woo-Woo theories you have about Catholicism Inc. The plain historical truth of that organization tells me all I need to know about it.

So post away. I'm sure it'll be good for a laugh or two.

If I feel like wasting some time, I might post a few reams of anti-Semitic material from the One True Church. It's all in their archives, especially in official publications like the Vatican newspapers. No need for bizarre alternative histories about who REALLY installed the Popes, etc.

10. Huh?
Don't mean to be rude, but who the hell are the Oranges?

I'm Catholic and I have no idea what you're talking about.

(Sigh.) I should have known better to visit this forum.

4. I have to question the pope's
ability to contact god,
I cannot imagine God saying to the Pope, "Yes my son, ask George Bush for diplomatic Immunity, for you do need to avoid any responsibility for covering up the child sex scandals over the years".
If the Pope claims he prayed about it, and the above answer was realized, I would call him a liar.(just cant imagine God referring a man like Bush).
If the pope came to this conclusion all by himself, I would call him Like Bush, ethicly challenged.

8. amazing, the Pope comes out against bigotry and xenophobia
and instead of celebrating something that is essential to the progressive cause (speaking out for religious minorities and immigrants), people instead have to shit on Catholicism.

14. Ahh - but you forget.
He's the Pope - therefore if does something it's bad - if he doesn't do something it's bad.

The last place I'd look for any respectable commentary of Catholicism is the D.U. 'Religion' Forum - which I think is a very bad state of affairs indeed.

He must not have been paying attention to his lessons in his Hitler Youth camp meetings.

13. You take much for granted
You're lucky the Pope doesn't share the views of the Ayatollah Khomeini.

I'm sure you just take for granted that he never would/could...but he can.

12. Selective outrage. Where's the warnings about homophobia?
Oh, right, Ratzinger IS a bigoted homophobe, never mind.
