Religions are Socialistic?
What is more socialistic than religion?

Socialism is about the good for all.
Religions are about good for all.

Religionism and socialism share more common ground than they have polar ideas?

6. That's why this OP
We have these religionists running around telling everyone how they should live.

And at the same time decrying socialism.
When what they are doing is using the worst of socialism to get their way.

3. In the American dumbfuckistan, socialism has Stalin's face. The followers of Jesus actually
divided all their earthly possessions among themselves. They were communists, no doubt about it.

4. Which religions? And which sects of those religions?
The statement is a little (way) too broad.

5. Ahh, the polar ideas part
In socialism the people decide what's best.

In religions, the elite make all those decisions.
Really, religions are like dictators when it comes to what's best for the people.

9. That sounds more like what I've observed.
The difference between "religions" and "cults" is vanishingly small in many cases. Both always have seemed authoritarian to me.

10. JESUS was the ultimate socialist.
Muhammed? Not so much.

Christianity, especially as practiced by the early church, and socialism share quite a lot of common ground. Not all religions, however, are remotely the same.

12. I disagree.
I think he was hung on a cross because the tragic hero story called for a martyr.

But then I'm one of those fundamentalist atheists who doesn't actually believe Jesus existed as a real person. The character, though? He was a socialist through and through.

13. Religions are about good for all?
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 08:30 PM by laconicsax
Is that why the two largest religions in the world have inspired wars, torture, and mass killings? The first poster who asks "what about Stalin?" or blames atheism for the Holocaust is a moron.

14. Uhmmm
Can you say 'corruption'?

Religion is man seeking the source of man. Man made things are susceptible to man made corruption.

16. 'Twouldn't even exist.
Totally man made. Without humans there would be no religion.

Neither would evil exist.

17. I don't think you realize how you're contradicting yourself.
To say that it's the "man made" aspects of religion that cause the atrocities implies that there are non-man made aspects.

Religion is about petty in-group/out-group tribalism and superstition, both of which can directly lead to the "corruption" you blame, and neither of which are "good for all."

Are you saying the religions Gods are the reason for the corruption?

19. Umm...no.
The reason for the "corruption" is that religion is a primitive human construct. Gods aren't responsible for what people do any more than phlogiston is responsible for flammability.

20. Religions are parasitic - that's why they demand you tithe.
Socialism is about the good for all.
Religion is about the good of the religion and the good of the priests/ministers/rabbis/mullahs/guys-in-funny-hats.

22. Either socialism or social democracy
Anthropocentric religions run the gamut in the way they are practiced, but even in Tea Bagger infested fundamentalist churches, like the Southern Baptists, it's somewhere between socialism and social democracy.

I think biocentric religions are also somewhere between socialism and social democracy, only I'd hazard a guess the biocentric religions have greater historical success in achieving the goal and serving the needs of the society.
