12. Precisely.
Whenever any fictional character is mentioned, we must shout out that he is fictional and does not exist.

Trying to discuss Raskol'nikov's (HE DOESN'T AND DIDN'T EXIST!) is, therefore, impossible. Discussing Plato (THERE'S NO ACTUAL PROOF HE EXISTED! HE'S A MYTH!) is also impossible, if only because of the interminable shouting.

23. the difference is simple
With the example of Bilbo, if you came in every thread about him and went "HE'S NOT REAL!!!", people would say: "of course he isn't don't be silly."

When you do that about "God" you get a far less logical reaction, thus people feel the need to reinforce the obvious. I agree it's silly to constantly have to state it, but when intelligent human being ACTUALLY argue the point, then silliness reigns, why fight it?

4. The entity you call God is actually a nonentity.
Nonentities do not have gender.

6. "He" is default for unknown gender in the English language.
However, I honestly believe God is above gender. It's like asking a human if they are a red ant or a black ant.
The question doesn't apply.

13. I'm pretty sure Jane Austen was told this..
In other words, it's been done.

Now, "Tell that to a feminist writer" might elicit a different response.

21. Uhm, boats(and ships) are traditionally referred to as "she"...
cars about half and half, and while dogs are sometimes called male when it isn't accurate, cats are called female inaccurately as well.

7. God is not.
That simplified it even more :).

If "God" does in fact exist, it (or they) is genderless.

11. True, because god is imaginary.
Until someone provides some proof of their god's existence, it is simply a figment of their imagination.

14. The God described in the Torah is male.
The God described in the Christian Holy Bible is male.

I would guess Allah is a male in the Koran, but I have not actually read it.

15. You obviously don't understand.
Just because a god has been male for almost the entirety of a religion doesn't mean that it isn't not male now. Remember, God is a sockpuppet, so it's more about the hand.

BTW: Allah is male too--the Quran has a male deity.
