More Christian Values: Fox News Facebook Page Gets 8,000 Death Threats
The Fox News Facebook page got over 8,000 death threats posted on its wall after the Communications Director for the American Atheists, Blair Scott, appeared on the network’s “America Live” discussing the group’s lawsuit hoping to stop the erection of a crucifix at the World Trade Center Memorial.

The admins of Fox’s Facebook page worked furiously to delete the hateful posts, but not before the atheist blogger behind One Man’s Blog managed to capture screenshots, some of which we’ve reproduced below.

7. Sounds like run-of-the-mill Old Testament theology. One solution to the I-beam cross controversy:
(warning: :sarcasm:)

Erect other symbols made out of Ground Zero beams: a Jewish Star of David and Atheist "A" are pretty straight forward. Surely they could find a beam that was warped into a Muslim crescent...

32. and Luke 19:27 proves your point:
"But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me.'"

Oh, wait; it supports these Christians who want to kill atheists.

33. Oh, wait . . .
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that?" (Matthew 5:43-45 )

36. True . . .
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 11:47 PM by janet118
But the passage from Luke is a "parable" - a story about a king and servants - it is not Jesus speaking directly to his disciples about how to behave. The passage is often interpreted as a prediction of the Final Judgment.

My point being that if people call themselves "Christians," they should theoretically follow what Jesus actually said about how they should behave towards their enemies and neighbors. They should not call themselves Christians if they go around bullying, threatening violence, and judging others. They should call themselves Republicans.

37. The problem with your statement is multi-fold.
1. The four books of the Bible which contain the supposed words of Jesus contradict each other, making it difficult to determine exactly the answer to the cliche you grazed but didn't hit, "WWJD".
2. The four books of the Bible you would focus on are highly overridden by the shocking amount of shit that comes before and after them.
3. "What Jesus actually said" assumes that Jesus actually existed, which is dubious at best.
4. Even if you bypass the previous problems, Jesus supposedly used parables in order to teach the people, and this parable clearly involves the slaughter of enemies.
5. You don't get to define who is, or who is not, a Christian. Since there is absolutely no accepted definition, the only way to identify a Christian is by the label they apply to themselves.
6. There are many people who behave in exactly the way you describe in your closing, and yet vote straight-ticket Democrat. Some of them might even post here...

38. Expanding a bit on #3:
"What Jesus actually said" is absolutely impossible to know even if he DID exist, since the man himself didn't write anything down. Those four books of the bible, indeed ALL of the New Testament, were written by other men.

17. I don't get the anger.
If they believe they are right and the atheists are going to hell then why the anger? It's already taken care of by God, if they really are believers.

This is because they really are not sure in their beliefs and feel threatened. They are afraid their kids won't believe them about the right way to live your life in a Christian manner.

30. I tracked a few links back. The article
"Fox News Facebook Page Gets 8,000 Death Threats" begins "The Fox News Facebook page got over 8,000 death threats posted on its wall after the Communications Director for the American Atheists, Blair Scott, appeared on the network’s “America Live” discussing the group’s lawsuit hoping to stop the erection of a crucifix at the World Trade Center Memorial"

Clicking the hyperlink "death threats" actually takes you to:

Facebook Threats Over ‘Draw Mohammed’ Result In Life In Prison
Posted by Jorge Cino on February 28th, 2011 9:50 AM
... Remember the satiric Facebook group that declared May 20th “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day?” The group attracted over 100,000 fans, led Pakistan to ban Facebook for a few days, and provoked more than a few death threats. The admin eventually pulled the pag.

One of those people threatening members of this Facebook group was Zachary Adam Chesser (pictured), who was sentenced Thursday to life prison because of these and other extremist actions. The 21-year-old from Fairfax, Va., had gone from being a typical undergrad student at George Mason University in 2009 to a follower of the radical Islamic group of cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, thought to be one of the key leaders of Al-Qaeda ...

That's not really much evidence for the article's claim that 8000 Christians posted death threats on the Fox Facebook book. The article further links to one man's blog, from which the graphic in the OP comes. But what the blogh actually says is:

Fox News Facebook page was flooded with thousands of comments. I would link to the post, but apparently Fox removed it. Not before several comments were screen captured though ...
http://onemansblog.com/2011/08/06/christians-openly-advocate-killing-athiests-on-fox-news-facebook-page/

So what we have here is a handful of alleged, but unverifiable, facebook posts -- portrayed as 8000 death threats, with a link to an unrelated story from last year as further "evidence." Color me unimpressed: the internet is a great wasteland of bullshit, inhabited by legions of poseurs, but there's no reason to fall for it here

Religious crazies of all faiths will never learn what religious liberty means. Is it Genetic? Is it stupidity? Is it just plain ignorance coupled with a dark personality's view of the world. I know broken machines when I see 'em. There are a certain amount of sociopaths in every generation.
